Road Tripping Ireland 2011

My wife and I rented a little car and road tripped Ireland in 5 days. While not an 'expedition' or 'back country' trip, it was an amazing feeling of accomplishment to get our feet wet landing in a country with no reservations except for a vehicle, a road atlas, and a must-see list. It was an amazing journey for us.

We covered Dublin, Galway City, Limerick, Cashel, Kilkenny, and back to Dublin in our span and spent 850km in a few days behind the wheel of our Nissan Micra (I have shoes bigger than this car).

Day 1 is posted in our blog. I will post Day 2 by then end of the week and hope to have it finished within three weeks. So much happened day by day, I didn't want to overwhelm readers with all the pictures and descriptions. The original post will be updated with links to each day.

Ireland Day 1

Ireland Day 2

Ireland Day 3

Ireland Day 4 and Home

EDIT: I was inspired by another thread to make a video. From now on, all of my trips will have a video camera on the packing list

My wife and I did a road trip of Ireland a year ago. We had a little Ford fiesta and that was some of the most fun driving I have ever done. It was like a little rally car especially on those curvy one lane roads (which were really two lane) with 15ft hedges on each side for shoulders. It is definatly on the list of places to go back.

"Sweet trip! My wife and I are planning to do the same in Ireland this year"---PM me if you have any questions about things to do or see. We only spent a week there but we covered a lot of ground. And I would highly recommend getting the Rick Steves guide book.

As stated above, feel free to ask questions. My wife and I did this on the cheap and had a blast. We also covered a lot of ground.

By far those little highways were our favorite. The M's were cool, but only if you had a sports car. Our Nissan Micra was screaming at 4000 rpms @ 130 KM

Great adventure. You already have two of the best parts of Ireland: Incredible cathedrals, and Guiness. Any chance that you're going to get to the coast? Ireland is incredibly beautiful. Good luck to you all.

I know right? I'm writing the post about the Guinness Storehouse and the Jameson Distillery right now. It's our last real day in Ireland, so it'll likely be the last point.
