I know Viggen is out of town. So wanted to chime in an say I bought the vehicle since it may be a couple days before he replies.

SilvElise you probably has done some research on expedition vehicles and maybe able to point me in the right direction. We are looking for an expedition ready vehicle for our Africa overland trip. Interested in either Land Rover Discovery/Defender or Toyota Landcruiser. Any ideas where we should look? Thanks.

Start with forums with more folks who travel Africa and use the vehicle most common in trip reports (toyota).

I would post that up in the fireside chat section of the forum. I would also look for something already built in that region or even Europe. Shipping a car that far can become quite expensive over just buying on there driving it and flipping it back.

There are several awesome trip reports of Africa and I would look at exactly what parts they used. Here is one great example:

Also about vehicles.. both are great and have done many amazing adventures. I would look and do research on both so you know what issues might arise. Also consider the region you are traveling and what parts may be obtainable.

Viggen

Just here...

Catching up but it was sold to Silv. He will be the happy new owner in a few days time when the truck shows up.

As for travels, a Disco might not hold as much inside as a Defender but it is INFINITELY more comfortable. I would be hating life if I had to road trip a Defender.

I've spent most of my day catching up on my sleep. Going from Bayou to 6" of snow in half a day meant a lot of missed sleep. I'm going to take some pictures tomorrow.
Well glad you made it back safely with no issues :smiley_drive::victory:

Thanks for the advice. We have decided to to purchase Discovery/Defender in South Africa and sell it once we get to London. Land Cruisers are more expensive given our budget.
