well i guess its my turn. now that LA has aquired his, i would like for some help in my search.

my list of must is:
-SR
-rust free
-clean
-dent free

i would prefer a service history, lower miles are good, but im good with 150-200k

prefer a stick, but have yet to find one. color preferences exist, but probably wont apply.

prefer the 3.5, which i believe limits me to 94-96

price is dependant on condition, but my total budget, after flying there, and driving back, is $4000-4500. but i would like that budget to cover minor repairs and tires to. so, well you know how it is.

here are some i have feelers out on

i love this one. respect the price to mods rato, but am concerned that it will need a bunch of work soon, and he is FIRM on the price. already spoken with him earlier this month

over priced, and i dont want to be LA's twin, but nice no contact made yet

thats all i have found, save for one 30 miles away, that i cant seem to contact.

i will appreciate any input you gents may have. looking to pull the trigger on this in mid february. only thing that will get in the way is a better deal on a first gen cummins truck.

thanks in advance

I went out and looked at that Salem one... interior was pretty shot, way over priced and he was not willing to play ball. Thought I would give you a heads up.

thanx for the input.

this one is in town, but i believe since its a 93, its only 3.0.

so i guess, tell me why i should settle on a 3.o or make the trip for a 3.5?

again, thanks for all the help. hey jeff, would it be a lot to have you check it out in your free time? let me know if some compensation is in order.

thanx

Early 92/93 SR's are 3.0L engines & have the smaller rear diff/axles.

94-95 SR's introduced 3.5L engines and the larger rear diff/axles. There are minor engine differences between these 2 years and some parts will not interchange easily or will require mods to interchange. I'm not 100% on the details so additional research is required if you need to do a swap.

96 added OBDII compliance so you can use a generic reader to access the codes.

97 not 100% clear if it still used the SR name or the Winter Package option. Nor am I clear which r&p gearing is used.

98 dropped the SR name for sure but you can get the rear locker with the Winter Package. They also dropped the gear ratio to 4.2x:1 from 4.6x:1. Most off roaders prefer a higher ratio (4.6x:1/4.9x:1 or even 5.29:1 R&P). This gives you greater mechanical advantage off road for tougher terrain or to turn larger heavier tires.

98 also gets you heated seats with the winter package.

Joe,

Depends on your driving requirements.

For me, I wanted the extra HP the DOHC 3.5 provides (200+ HP) so I could more easily turn larger tires off road (I'm running 35's and may upgrade to 37's, 38's or even 39's:Wow1:). Also, I'm not necessarily a big fan of huge HP so for me the dohc hp is enough for now.

Plus I get the larger drivetrain in back (gears & axles are bigger).

doesn't say what year it is. you'll want to verify it has the locker and which engine it has. 3.0L, 3.5l dohc, or 3.5l sohc (although i believe these were only available in the gen 2.5).

It has sliding rear windows, and later style rims, so that means its at the oldest a 94. SR trim level so that one has the 3.5.

If its a 94-6, it has DOHC. 97 Has the 3.5 SOHC, and the 4.2 diff gears, the last year before the bubble fenders came out in 98.

Thanks for that clarification justice. Didn't realize the sliding windows wrent available before 94 nor that the 97 went to a SOHC / 4.2 setup.:ylsmoke:
