WTB: Special Edition Disco

I'm looking for a special edition disco, any really, but would love a white kalahari!! Please let me know if you know of one, a special edition of any kind, as I am looking to buy one.

not much too the kalahari, its easy to make one out of a regular white disco(just ad SG sliders, hood blackout, rims, brushguard, and a ladder)

if you want a real special edition id hold out for a TReK only 16(i think) ever made for each event(1999,2000,2003). Rovertrader would be the one to find if you want a TReK...he is the guru for special vehicles:sombrero

Why? There really isnt much special about the "special editions." For less you could buy a white one and make something better. Most are nothing more than a different shade of color combination. XDs make me laugh and that one above is pretty over priced actually. If he came down a grand, that would be a pretty decent deal.

True, most Special Vehicles are no more special than other regular trucks, however, that said, ... Special Vehicles division no longer exists. With time, these trucks will be come more rare and probably hold their value better than regular trucks. However, if it is a truck you intend to use aggressively off-road, I would advise the same regarding a regular truck being built to suit your needs.
The other benefit to a SV truck is that typically they are in the rarer Yellow or Orange color or have some odd interior that is specific to that vehicle.
The other thing to consider is that 1) a special vehicle truck is typically pretty well appointed with some offroad gear (a savings over doing it yourself), or 2) consider buying a truck that is already kitted. You typically are buying the off road bits a a significant savings or at least saving the time involved and labor or outfitting the truck.

Just sayin.

not too special, 12 TReKs in '99 Molten orange, out of say 50k reg Discos sold that year in the States, so about 0.02% chance of seeing yourself coming/going, and you get a low profile SD rack, sliders, skids, winch and tray and brushbar, waterproof seat covers, lights wired to factory harness, HD rubber mats, and a bit of graphics. But if you are going to wheel it, I agree with above, buy a built truck as you will be thousands of dollars ahead, and not risk damaging a hand assembled piece of Rover trivia. Or do as the fella that bought my CT110, kit it to suit, and drive the wheels off it making your own story that has a great intro by the CT teams...

little comparison, the TReK is 1/16 '03s which inspired the factory to use the Tangiers Orange for G4, and also released 200 G4 clones for the US...
and the G4 just came over a near 4' ledge and fell into the hole.

Ill agree that if you want some stickers and a few ancillary bits, a SV Rover is cool but the more you use it, the less it will be worth. I am also of the opinion that the premium for the above is not worth it. The parts that make these SV trucks "special" can be had for less on the open aftermarket. Granted, the truck you build wont have the cache of being a Rover limited edition but in the end, does that really matter? Very rarely are they taken off road anyway. The pinstripping and dents that occur when taken off road will kill the stickers and resale value. Its always cool to see G4s and XDs off road because it is so rare. If youre after a few add on bits and a paint code, go for it. But, like Dale pointed out, if you ever plan on taking it off road, just get a regular one and save some money.

That truck has been officially/unofficially on the market for a few years now. It seems that the price I'm willing to let it go for is more than the price that people are willing to buy it for. I guess that's why it's still in my driveway. ;)

I will agree with all of the earlier posts though in regards to SV kit and bolting it onto a vehicle. Now, the bigger question is are you going to be a 'Bolt-On-Bob' or are you really going to use the truck?

I have tried very hard to keep all of the 'kit' inside the vehicle to avoid that 'look'. I understand not everyone can do that with their truck, and everyone is entitled to do what they want with their vehicles, but I have a low tolerance for trucks with shovels bolted on them that I know have never broken dirt and never will.

It will get some use. I live in Colorado, and like to do "off the beaten path" fly fishing. I take an annual trip to the Durango/Ouray/Telluride side of the state and get a few good trail rides in. I am not a fixer, so everything I added on would be at a premium. I have a trustworthy guy I use in Colorado Springs, but I know me, and I would put off getting the extras added on.
