Coleman Hot Water On Demand - Review

What I did for my semi-permanent trailer install, was I use an RV water pump. The electrical feed that normally runs the Coleman pump, now just drives a relay which in turn sends 12V to the RV pump. So, the only thing that the Coleman battery runs is the circuitry, the valves, and the relay. The Coleman battery lasts forever like this.

Talking about how much you can heat on a 1lb tank... I dunno, but I'd say a lot. I find it is VASTLY more efficient to heat the water in the HWOD than using a stove. So if I'm going to boil water for cooking, I'll warm it with the HWOD first, then put it on the stove.

That's pretty slick! For me I have a 19 gallon stainless tank with a faucet/bib outlet so I get a little gravity working for me but I don't have an RV pump.

Just wanted to drop a line and say thanks for the write up... I have been looking at systems this may move it to the top of the list!

OvEx11 was a blast!!! I wish I would've seen this before going and could've checked it out in person. Honestly though, with the great job you did on the write-up there is really no need. Thank you so much for taking the time to photo, video, type and post all this info! I am so stealing your ideas.

Thanks for the nice review

I like my Coleman water heater too.
It is kind of heavy and bulky but great on long trips.

I used a 3 gallon bucket for the water supply and just let the water from the shower wand recirculate in the bucket while washing so I don't have to turn on and off the heater.

This post was quietly made on page one, and wonder if it doesn't solve the problem, vs. the recirculation valve thing?

Or am I terribly missing something here?

If you are inside your shower tent you'd have to step outside to stick the shower head into the buket/water source that feeds the heater. The recirculation valve let's you stay in the tent and you also avoid stcking a potentially soapy or dirty shower head into the bucket.

Possible the only thing to make this set up better is an adapter to hook up a 4# refillable propane tank. Still small, but save money and even more environment friendly.

Thanks very much for the writeup.

I've done just that. I've got a pair of 5lb tanks. 5lbs of propane last a long time, so I run one out on a trip, and then start the next one and refill the first when I get home.

I use them for everything, stove, propane fridge, etc. I also carry a couple of 1lbers just as a backup.
