I was wondering where everyone has their radios mounted in their Cherokees. I have a CB mounted above my rear view mirror, but want to add a 2m rig and I'm not sure what to do. I've considered moving my CB somewhere and putting the 2m radio where it is now. I thought I'd see if you guys would put up pictures of where your radios are and a brief description of how well it works there.

Here is my current CB mounting location:

It works very good mounted here. Keeps it away from moisture and doesn't knock your knees like on the side of the console or under the dash would. Easy access and tuning as well as out of the way. Mic bracket drop bracket had to be made so the mic would not be constantly flying out of it when mounted horizontally. Been here for three years without any problems related to the mounting of the radio.

i had a dvd player mounted where you have your cb mounted and i finally got fed up and took it out one day, thats pretty much the only thing stopping me from mounting mine there. i dont want anything up there right now.
my cb is just wedged between the passanger seat and the center console. dont have to drill holes and i can put the mic in the cup holder :D im going to take pix in the morning and post tomorrow night maybe

what model ham radio do you have? if you dont have one yet, i would recommend one that has a seperation kit.

I have a FT2600 and im having a hard time finding a suitable location for mine.
my CB is velcro'd to the left side of the console down by the dash. I have a uniden 510 that ive had for prob 20 years (makes me sound old now)

I have an Icom 2100H that I'm going to use. I've considered using the Icom where my CB is and getting one of the 75WX Cobra CB's with the controls in the mic/handset but I have the cb that's in there as well as a Uniden PC68, Uniden AX-144 President, and a Cobra 25WX that I can't sell, so there's no need in getting another one! :Wow1:

Send me a PM on what you are selling. Is it the NW series?

Get a ham radio with a detachable faceplate. Here's how my Yaesu Ft-7800 is mounted.

I agree about the remote heads. It makes things sooooo much easier. However, they tend to be a lot more expensive than conventional. Anyways, here's what I did. These pics are with a scanner but I now have an I-com land mobile in the same place instead:

In the last pic you can see where I welded some steel bar to the seat frame and the radio's bracket. This is so the radio slides forward and backwards as you adjust the seat. Otherwise, the seat belt will interfere as well as your relative position to the radio will change as you slide the seat forward and backward.

Are you running a console with that setup? I know I'd never be able to get that between my seat and console. Neat idea though! I have considered mounting the 2m rig inside the console to hide it, but that makes adjustments and frequency changes hard and distracting if I'm moving.

Well I just switched out my CB for a Cobra 75 so I've got the junction box stuck under the dash with just the handset (with all the controls on it) on the dash. However, before I had some Midland unit and I mounted it vertically on passenger side of the center console, all the way forward. You couldn't slide the passenger seat all the way forward but other than that, it worked great.

I sure am running my stock console with that set up. It was tight with the scanner but it fit fine, and with the land mobile I had plenty of room. Just measure twice and cut once and you'll be fine.

However, that scanner is HUGE and most if not all 2m's and land mobiles are a lot smaller than that thing. They would fit a lot easier.

Can you get a picture of it with the seat mounted? I'd like to see what kinda space you have there.
