Stiffer Rear Springs For a Discovery

I have a 99 Series 1 Discovery SD and I’m sure the springs on it are 10 years old. I’m going on a long term backcountry climbing trip this summer and will be loaded climbing gear for 3 guys, two Dogs and a lot of camping gear and food. I will be able to evenly load a lot of gear over my roof rack, but will still have a bunch of gear and my refrigerator in the back of the rover. I want to limit the load drop in the rear but I really don’t want a lift yet. I also have new shocks. I’m wanted to see how easy it is to get stock spring in a stiffer rating and what options there are.

I had the same thing as you, 3 kids, wife, dog, gear and the back end was dragging....RTE springs(rr1 and rr4) and everything is good.
My Disco is my dd and also cross-county rig. It did not flex as well in Moab this time, but that was a small price to pay for everything else they gave me.

For what you are asking. Little lift and only occasionally heavy, I would suggest airbags in the rear springs. Airlift and Firestone make them and they do not cost very much. You can then easily adjust the height as you load up to stay level.

Heavy rear springs in an unloaded Disco suck.

Thats what I did,

Heavy duty springs do not have to "suck", if your shocks are valved correctly.

If your are happy with your un-loaded ride, air bags are a good choice.

Thanks for the info guys! I think I'm going to look in to the Airlift. Look like they only have it for 94 to 97 Defenders, I assume that would work.

It will fit your truck
Another way to go is to get some spacers and put them on before you go on a big trip. Pop them off after b

I will do a 1 inch spring spacer lift later on in the summer for a little extra clearance, but for now I think the air bags will do it for me. I ordered Firestones Coil Rite Air Helper Kit yesterday.
