M101 CDN / Land Rover Question

Hi All - I finally found my M101 CDN and have a question about locating hubs/drums that have the Land Rover Defender 90 stud pattern (5x6.5) that will fit on the standard 3500lbs axel. Has anyone here found anything that works? I was hoping to avoid using adapters, but so far have not been able to find the 5x6.5 pattern anywhere. Must be a few M101 CDNs running on Rover wheels here.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the link - I think finding a Sankey axel may pose just as much difficulty... ideally I would have liked to get a Sankey, but the M101 CDN was a great runner up. I may just resign myself to carrying a spare for the trailer as well as the Rover.

I would rather not do adapters myself - don't really want the wheels sticking out any more than needed, plus it just seems like another thing that can break.... If I can't swap out the hubs I'm just going to stay stock and carry a trailer spare. I am surprised how hard it is to find the 5x6.5 pattern... darn Brits have to make everything funky.... but maybe that's why I like their cars so much.

I agree! Just started looking at Sankey trailers, a lot available in the UK cheap! If we can get some axles shipped over at a fairly reasonable price, would you be interested. I have an email to Doug C (importer of land rovers) to see what he can do for us.

You have three options:
They have been covered in another thread here, and I'll find you a link : http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/63016-Wheel-adapters

1) Wheel Adapters- I did this on a 101 to put Defender 90 wheels.

2) On our Conqueror- I took pics of the wheel hubs and measurements and sent them via e-mail to Todd at ToddCo Suspensions in Flintstone GA. He determined that I had plenty of space to drill for new wheel studs without compromise to the integrity of the wheel hub. He pressed the old studs out and installed Land Rover Studs (Had them sent in advance from Rovers North). They work like a charm with the wolf wheels. The great thing is that I have all matching wheels and tires all around.

3) You may take measurements and see if you can simply replace your existing hubs with some off of at Discovery I or Range Rover Classic. This might be the easiest solution.

Let me look for the link, and I'll place it here in this thread.

Thanks
Dendy

Thanks for the link Dendy - I guess my hopes of swapping out the hubs & drums just isn't going to be as easy as I hoped. #2 on your list is an interesting option... I'll have to take a look at my hubs and see how much room is on them.

themaxx - Are the Sankey axels the same width as the M101 CDN? (I believe they have a wide and a narrow track version) I would be interested if they could be had for a reasonable price, though I am leaning to keeping this project simple and may just go with carrying a spare for the trailer. Let me know what you find out. Cheers!

D110: Just so you know, if you go with the adapters - they do not add much to the width at all. Maybe a half inch at the very most.

Please let me know if you do wind up changing out the wheels and hubs. I'd be interested in possibly buying the M101CDN2 parts for my Iltis and trailer.

I'm willing to help to the extent that I can. I have looked since getting Ade's mail and haven't located any Sankey axles. It would appear that the only way to get axles is with the rest of the trailer. I think the recomendation above to use series or other Rover axle hubs is probably the best/easiest/cheapest route to go. Sankeys are much heavier duty than the similar sized m416's but not quite as cool looking....

Thanks for looking into it DC - For now I'm going to focus on getting it cleaned up, painted, some jerry can holders and propane tank bracket welded on... I'll stick to the stock wheels for my first season with the new toy and keep my eye out for some hubs that might fit.
