Autopal off road lights (ebay dealer)

Thought Id toss this in here for anyone looking for a lighting alternative.

I recently picked up a set of Autopal off road lights off of ebay. I was looking for decent lighting that would stand up to some abuse, but was cheap enough to simply buy more when they did get destroyed.

I picked up a set of 5" 100Watt lamps off of ebay, and I have to say that the quality is WAAAYY batter than I ever expected. Ive had KCs Hella 500s and Lightforce lights before, and these are right up there with the best of them as far as build quality goes.

Very robust housing, excellent mounting and aiming hardware, and a very nice rubber gasket and clamp system to secure the light within the housing. They do have a few imperfections in the glass itself, and the reflector may or may not be inferior to that of much more expensive lighting, but for the cost these seem VERY hard to beat.

I will be buying a set for my pickup very soon.

As I said, VERY hard to beat.

here they are mounted on my Subaru. They reach into the darkness almost 2x that of the high beams.

I replaced my sealed beam headlights on my Eagle and my Ford van with the Autopal H4 conversion bulbs. I'm very happy with them.

Yeah Ive read loads of positive reviews about the conversion lamps, but couldnt find anything about their off road lamps.

Nice to know that the off road lights are decent too! Maybe I'll pick up a pair as auxiliary reverse lights...

Just don't fall into the trap of buying their headlights.
They really are substandard knock-offs. At least the offroad lights won't hurt anybody with their poor focus; the headlights could kill you or another motorist.

From my experience, I wouldn't say they are neccessarily "substandard." I have had them on my Jeep for over 2 years now and am very happy with them. One of them finally burned out and it was no problem replacing the standard bulb. My only complaint would be the paint on the outside, it is faded, but that is after two years in the Southern California desert. Overall, I'm very happy with mine.

Likewise. I've run their H4 conversions on both my old XJ and my current Dodge. Spread and coverage is considerably superior to the stock sealed beams, and they have a nice clean cutoff at the top of the beam, keeping them out of the eyes of other drivers. They seem to perform very comparably to the Hella H4 conversions I've previously used.

I don't own any; just going from industry photometry reports and some inside info...
The reflectors aren't up to snuff and the lights don't produce the lumens in numbers or quality compared to other brands.
They just aren't good lights.

They also make a Cibie knock-off that fools some people; but it's sold under a different name.
They're cheap and sometimes cheap is okay. Just as long as the consumer knows.

Now, a product that I have a problem with would be an IPF headlight. It tries to pass itself off as a quality product, at a quality product price. But they're junk too ---- not even legal to install ---- but you see them sold by reputable retailers.
That bothers me.

Not even close to Hellas in terms of performance.

Nothing I tested beat Hella in straight-line lumen output, not even Cibie.
Cibies put the most light in the most places though, by a big margin.

They probably were better than your stock sealed beams. But there are some good replacement sealed beams that would bury them. And the Hellas or Cibies would run circles around them.
