Quality Video on a budget

I'd like to replace my Sony MiniDV handycam. (tired of converting tape to digital) Started looking to upgrade my existing canon rebel to a t3i or something similiar that would shoot good video but I keep tripping over my budget while shopping for a DSLR that does video.

For my skill level there is nothing wrong with my current Canon for still shots...would just be nice not to have to carry two cameras for stills and video. Any advice for a budget video that takes good quality vids?

Thanks!

iPhone 4s. 8 megapixel camera, shoots 1080 video, built in editing, very handy form factor.

Buy a Panasonic GH1. Awesome video quality.. better quality video than the Canon T3i you are thinking about. Check out this video comparing Red / Canon / GH1.. GH1 is a discontinued model so you can get it for cheap. Pair it with the 14-140 lens and you have tremendous range.

Thanks for the input and the new options to consider! Have some more research to do now...Really appreciate those vid clips ywen.

Since you are already familiar with Canon, the 7D is a safe way to go... kind of expensive though. I ended up with the Nikon d7000, very comparable to the 7D, because I already have Nikkor lenses....

While I have absolutely no idea what that video was about, the girl was sure cute, and the bokeh on the lenses paired with the Red was AMAZING!

Same girl, shot with the GH1... awesome video.. awesome camera.

Agreed. Lots of effects though, a bit distracting. Brilliantly edited altogether. I can't believe I just spent 3 minutes captivated by a girl standing in a very mediocre urban park doing essentially nothing of interest.

I'd watch it again :)
