They were originally designed to be air lifted by the Westland Wessex HU5 helicopter, as the existing Land Rover models were too heavy.
Actually, the correct reference is Lightweight as there was a 109 prototype that was designed in such a way as to be stacked two high in cargo planes.
But "Air Portable" is more glamorous than "Lightweight" ;)
