I appreciate everyone's help and input. I am by no means a craftsman, but I spent the weekend working on a simple platform. I originally planned to paint the wood once it gets warm however I may end up just carpeting it. Overall based on my skillset/lack thereof I am happy with the results.

This looks like a really slick option, however, it looks like more than I will have the space for. I wish they sold just the mounting crossbars that any slide system could tie into.

I have gotten stuck a few times. One of the scariest was just a few months ago. A relatively tame part of a trail turned really bad when we almost slid off the side of the road down 10 ft. Luckily a stump and the winch made it possible for me to get out.
