Onx shows campground but national forest doesn’t

The VA MVUM is 15 years old and useless. onX likes to show hiking trails as 4x4 accessible. You can't trust any of the current references.

National Geographic Trails Illustrated maps removed from Gaia GPS

I'm super disappointed with the news I just got from Gaia GPS. I submitted a help request because one of my most used map layers had stopped loading in the web interface. I was provided a link the stated, "Support for National Geographic Trails Illustrated maps in Gaia GPS will officially end...

Recommendation on good foldable solar panel.

There are lots of options, but I have been very happy with my Jackery 100w foldable panel.

Tarp Under Tent - Common Practice?

I always put a tarp under the tent to keep the tent bottom clean. Tarps are easy to roll up dirt to dirt and to rinse off at home. Tents are better preserved being protected this way.

2024 Land Cruiser in the USA?

I bought a 2025 in December of 2024. It gets ~22 mpg well loaded, but stock. I don't yet know the longevity of anything. The only problems I heard from the first model year were wind noise from the mirrors and roof racks, although the recurring gauge cluster notifications are widely despised.

    NPS Fines AWD drivers…

Go read the article. It's practically misinformation. In my fleet, I have a 2012 Ford Escape. It's a FWD unibody SUV like the rest, but it is technically capable of a 50/50 torque split, so it is 4WD. Compared to a Honda CRV or Toyota Rav4, will that minor detail matter to the trail? Not a...

*SOLD* 2009 Toyota 4Runner, Trekboxx, arb lockers/bumper, expedition ready, ($25,000) Oxnard, CA

I had no ill intent either. Just pondering through things with you. I'm glad you responded in kind! Personally, from being in numerous forums and Facebook groups, I tend to forget what we buy and drive is atypical. When you're out on the road and you see what everyone else is driving, you...

*SOLD* 2009 Toyota 4Runner, Trekboxx, arb lockers/bumper, expedition ready, ($25,000) Oxnard, CA

Despite the quality of the parts, the buyer with $27,000 cash is looking at something newer than a 2009 for modern tech and safety features. Likewise, the buyer needing to borrow money will struggle to find an institution that will loan that much on a 15-year-old vehicle. You put great parts...

Using Tacoma Truckbed inverter to supply a power station, despite Modified Sine Wave AC power

Honestly, I'm not sure. The included charger I have hooked up to "shore power" to charge at home. The inverter is powering a generic 12v charger that came with a previous refrigerator.

Using Tacoma Truckbed inverter to supply a power station, despite Modified Sine Wave AC power

I've been using the OEM inverter in my GX for about a year to charge my Jackery 500. I haven't had any issues with this combo.

Someone explain why GAIA gets so much love

I've been running a 2nd hand iPad Air 4G for a few years now. It has been a solid choice, but there may be more affordable options out there.
