My power system is back up and running. I trickle charged each of the 4 batteries back to ~13.20V, wired them all back up, and shore power is taking it from here. I now know the system really well, and it's good to know it's fairly robust overall. But glad to have it behind me, particularly...
@Chadx just FYI I have the 800ah setup (with the dual 50a chargers). I agree we are being conservative here, and I did ask about what you suggested so SuperTramp was going to check back with Victron. It was getting towards end of the day already for them so probably tomorrow before I hear back...
@SimplyAnAdventure I'd love to hear back on what the upgrade process was like for you. That's awesome though that you can do that. And yes, I was so happy I didn't have to try to figure out my own lockable water fill solution, that was a big one for me.
@Chadx I hope that works out for you...
I talked with SuperTramp today, and they reached out to Victron to confirm things as well. I fortunately purchased the Victron IP65 10A charger which arrived this morning (thanks @Chadx for the idea, everyone should probably have one of these handy). The basic process is:
Disconnect the battery...
I bought an adapter plug for connecting it to shore power that Supertramp recommended, but I can't recall where I put it. It's warm enough now that it's not needed, but it's something I'll look at going into next winter period.
I left it on shore power overnight, and the only real difference in...
The only items showing in the Victron app are one of the BatteryProtects, both Orions, and both SmartSolars. Everything else is not showing (2nd BatteryProtect, SmartBMV, SmartLithiums). I should also note, in the app the BatteryProtect shows "Load output state: Disabled by REMOTE".
The...
It's currently around 60F here, so the batteries should be plenty warm, though it's possible one night in the past week or so it got below 41 if that was a tripping point or combined with the battery heater draw down. I have the Intelli-Power PD9360 converter/charger.
I drove for about 90...
I think my power system has hit some protection state possibly from leaving the battery heaters on without shore power, but the camper has no power from the batteries and plugging into shore power doesn’t change anything. I also drove the truck for 40mins and I never got above 1.8a on one of the...
Hah, I'm in! I really did consider a Cab for my build, but ended up with the Crew. I don't mind the extra length for the most part, but the turning radius is where I do feel it. I've been able to get it up trails out here so far without a lot of issue, but I'm still finding where the limits are...
Great instructions, and I agree it does look better overall.
Question though, why do you end up with extra slack in the cabling compared to the original install? It looks like you could even leave the existing bottom zip tie where it is.
With the battery heaters turned off, the constant drain right now is around -0.6A. Much more in line with what I'd expect. From their website, Supertramp said the Battle Born heater pulls 3A per hour at max heat, so I'm surprised the Victron pull is as high as it is. It's not even that cold...
Yep that's correct, I have the Victron batteries. And yeah, my understanding is the trade off in size for the battery capacity was that the heaters were moved to be external. I actually don't remember turning the battery heaters on, so I think it must have been switched on when I picked it up...
I'm not ready to quite winterize the camper, but it's going to be sitting a few weeks between uses as the weather gets colder. I was running over things and noticed I'm getting between -4a to -9a discharge. I have checked that all of the following are off:
Fridge
Heater
Water pump
Inverter...
@Brown229 I just ordered that cable, thank you!
I’ll probably try to find something like this adapter vs. using a separate battery: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Car-Cigarette-Lighter-Converter-Plug-Adapter-110V-240V-AC-Wall-Power-To-12V-DC/375702937
Again, thank you @Brown229 and @ruadhrigh. We...
@ruadhrigh thank you so much, you’re right we totally overlooked that tucked in on the side in the shower basin! Our recollection was they told us it wasn’t really intended to be used inside, they must have meant the actual shower basin itself not the camper.
And yes @Brown229 we really wanted...
