E-350 box options

I stopped by in person this morning. Good stuff.

For anyone considering it, building your own box for a brand new truck has some vehicle title hurdles. The title comes from Ford as an incomplete vehicle. Once the box is done, you will have to have your state certify it as road worthy and change the title to a normal title. Ujoint Colorado is working with a few custom box manufacturers to build boxes for these trucks, but that is a little ways off in the future.

That puts me pretty firmly in the Rockport box camp. Rockport will certify the vehicle as complete. Ujoint said they have many people out in the wild with Rockport boxes and they work just fine.

very nice. is this your vehicle? if yes, did you buy as incomplete and have Rockport put the box on? I'm in California, and definitely don't want to wrestle with the DMV. I see a few Wabash online from time to time, but they are always on the east coast.

That is not mine, that is the one they were welding up a custom subframe for, that you posted about.

I am still trying to work out a couple final details on the Rockport box. I don’t want to wrestle with the DMV either.

Are you buying the vehicle as a cutaway and having someone mount the box, or buying the vehicle with the box installed?

I am buying as a cutaway and having Rockport build/mount the box (Hopefully, they are not the most responsive).

Why not just go with something that is already built like this.

For me, the biggest bummer about wanting to buy a new off the shelf box truck is that none of them are on the West Coast, where I am located. I have to pay a ton to have it shipped to California, and then pay to have it shipped to Chris or Justin at UJOR. Justin is in CO, so I would probably just drive. Should have all my money by mid October, but pretty much got all my research done. Still bouncing back in forth between 35s and 37s, but was mistakenly under the impression you could stuff a 35 spare underneath. I guess I had a senior moment. So, now leaning towards 37s.

I was having trouble finding one already built like we want,
single rear wheels
12’ box, 6.5’ interior height
higher trim package in the truck (adaptive cruise control, better seats, etc)
would prefer the truck be something other than white
barn doors on the back
all box doors wired to the truck power locks
Box with an air dam on the front (for more storage and aerodynamic)

Basically, trying to hit the easy button and get exactly what we want so all I have to focus on is the interior build.

It is becoming apparent that this is a tall order and the box truck industry is built on not giving people any options and the customers just buying whatever is available.

We are visiting Boreas composites this week to see their products in person. I think I might have to build this whole box myself.

I was also under the impression that a 35 would fit but when I visited Ujoint last week, Justin said it would not. It is just metal frame rails in the back, I don’t see why I would not be able to cut/weld and make it fit. Part of this build is going to be about keeping the center of gravity as low as possible and hanging the spare on the back would not be great.

That one looks to have a higher trim package, but we were hoping for a 12’ box. We had a 10’ box truck before and the Ford Transit that we are using now is approximately 12’ In the cargo area.

If we could figure out how to put the motorcycles across the truck, we could go with a 10’ box. I need to spend a bit of time with a tape measure, I think the bikes are 6.5’, so I would need to come up with a system where the bikes get tied down with the bars turned to full lock. Maybe a side loading door, like a wheelchair access door that you see on school busses.
