Alaskan Campers: An Epic Overlanding Film

Great video, with some stunning camping locations!

But what's most interesting to me, in my endless internal debate of truck vs. van, is the view while camping out the kitchen window and narrow door:

Indeed…

I loved the "through the window/door" photos.

Many a morning I've peeled back the window covering on our FWC and just thought "how great it is to be able to visit here and see this"!

It doesn't matter much HOW you do it...but the memories of travels like this will stay with you and your family forever.

This seems the most recent / modern Alaskan Campers thread, so I'll ask my silly question in case owners can weigh in: what prevents water intrusion with the fold down wall design? I've tried to look closely to understand how this all seals up but still imagine driving into some head on downpour weather and then trying to pop this thing up and either a ton of water has seeped in and saturated the bed area, or then proceeds to during the pop up process.

My second silly question is, is it at all possible to enter this thing with the top down if needed?

I am focused on my midsize truck and minimalist rig at this point in my life, but when I am ready to return to a large full size truck it seems like a combo with one of these campers has the right form factor, space, and accommodation options.

1st Q….have not hearf of leaking problems from owners I’ve known (or from any articles I’ve read)

Try checking truckcamper magazine online, it’s a great resource

2nd Q…traditionally the rear door has been two separate sections and it always did allow entry into the camper with the top down,

Anyone still reading this thread? Too bad there isn't a specific Alaskan Camper thread here on Expo.

I'm in the process of purchasing a 2015 Alaskan Camper 8 foot model mounted on a 2015 GMC Sierra SLT 3500 HD truck. It has ~80,000 miles on it and has spent it's entire life, when not on the road in a dry garage. Both the truck and camper look like they belong on a display at a car show. They are honestly that clean. Like most interiors on these campers, this one had a few modifications. The biggest one was to shorten the dining area from 6 occupant seating to 4. More room for storage. It also has one solar panel and a pair of Lithium batteries plus two AGMs.

I figure I have 3-5 more years of overlanding (77 y.o. with maccular degeneration), so I want to go in style. For the past 50+ years it's been a hell of a ride, but now I'm going to slow down a bit and start smelling the roses. Wifey and I are planning on spending a month or two in early 2026 in AZ and southern UT. Should be a good way to break this in.

So my long serving 4Runner will soon be going to market.

At any rate, anyone interested in getting a Alaskan Camper thread going here?

Bye bye, Dusty....

Dusty, start the Alaskan thread, they deserve one.

Great campersI. I hope you continue the practice of keeping it under cover, as that will help prevent a lot of water intrusion and UV issues.

i am sorry to hear about your macular degeneration. We are of a similar age, and I suspect it won’t be all that long before I will be facing some kind of an age related health crisis.

Thanks for the comments folks. Don't mean to be stealing this thread....

Sparse Gray Hackle, tnx for the comments. Keep firing on all eight cylinders as long as you can!

Will check out your comments about the other site. I have so many questions.

Presently searching the local neighborhood for a garage I can rent to keep Alki undercover when not in use. I am very concerned about moisture ruining this magnificent camper!
