    Best Gaia maps for Baja

Wow, those are super clear, but I don't think I can store them all. What device are you using, and what zoom level will you save?

    Best Gaia maps for Baja

I know this is similar to a few other threads, but I also understand that the best maps for Mexico aren't necessarily the best for Baja, and not all of the maps out there are available in Gaia. I have Gaia Deluxe, so I have dozens of maps available. Not all of them are available offline...

    2019 Baja XL... who's in?

Well, no more entries are being accepted so if you aren't in you need to set your sights on 2021. We had a last-minute crew change but I think we are all set with paperwork complete. The car, truck, not sure what to call it, is coming along. The roof basket is on, we have fresh lower control...

New version of Gaia GPS released

I cruised over to the help forums on the Gaia website and was disappointed to see that it is basically a wasteland of unanswered posts. I'm not saying the staff needs to be involved, but normally with a product like this I would expect to see some user engagement. There is essentially none.

    2019 Baja XL... who's in?

I've been looking around a lot in OSM. I have no idea how complete the set of user-supplied tracks is, but we will see. I plan to upload any relevant tracks to OSM after the event. Gaia supposedly imports from OSM... well, they say something like that, not sure about the details. I'll know in a...

    2019 Baja XL... who's in?

We're not sure. Bamako is very sparse with the details on this and loading it the day before the rally isn't my idea of planning. It's unclear whether this will only be loaded into a GPS or if it can go into Mapsource/Basecamp/whatever. We will be running two tablets anyway (Surface and iPad)...

    2019 Baja XL... who's in?

Some of the guys went into this assuming we would swap for coilovers. My take on it was that AS allows us to have clearance when we need it but - more importantly - be lower and safer the rest of the time. We will be loaded... four guys and stuff. We're only about 550 pounds from GVWR now and...

    2019 Baja XL... who's in?

Post 1.. we are prepping a 2004 Cayenne S. We have lots of stuff to still decide on, but the car seems pretty solid. In a week or two we will get the race tires and roof basket mounted. Haven't finalized nav stuff yet. The Cayenne's strong points are the air suspension, competent AWD/4WD, fuel...

    2019 Baja XL... who's in?

OK I just saw your Baja-eater on the FB group. You're going to put how many miles on that in ten days? :) My first thought for a Spirit Class entry was a Haflinger painted like a Kamaz truck. But then I realized we need to do 3000 miles and only had ten days. I think the Haflinger would need 20.

where are the Porsche cayenne expo builds?

The Cayenne manual talks about replacing tires and staying within 30% of the tread depth for handling reasons. I understand that the differential would be working a little more and that may affect all of those electronic things. In fact, that is specifically what I was asking about because while...

where are the Porsche cayenne expo builds?

Isn't that something that applies to locked differentials or systems without them? Given that Cayennes have non-locked differentials, is windup relevant?

where are the Porsche cayenne expo builds?

Spare tire size We will be carrying two spares. Our C has the OEM swing-out rear wheel carrier but it may be limited to about 30" or 30.5" and we are going 32" (we have removed some lower plastic and are ready to modify the wheel well liners if needed). So, we will definitely be able to have a...

New version of Gaia GPS released

I'm thinking about going with one of the memberships, but one of the things I'd want is decent satellite imagery. The GAIA web app has a very low-res map from seven or eight years ago that would be useless. Does the regular membership have a better satellite map? Could someone post a sample that...

    Gaia App and Route Creating

Just curious; what's the benefit to straightening the curves in the road for routing?

New version of Gaia GPS released

According to their website, the free version does not allow archiving maps but the paid versions do. Cost of the app... are you and I looking at different things? https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gaia-gps/id1201979492?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D4 Free Level - You can use Gaia GPS for free. You'll be...

How long are the crossbars you have? We might be interested in adapting this to a different vehicle.

where are the Porsche cayenne expo builds?

I didn't mention this because I don't know much about PASM but as for the air part, I'm very happy we have it. Although I have yet to use the 955, I know we will be somewhere around GVWR and we're going to want two things: 1) height for when we really need it, and 2) lower suspension for...

where are the Porsche cayenne expo builds?

We have a Gen 1 Cayenne, so it has the tracks, and we're buying a fairly large (larger than needed, really) basket and will be either fabricating towers or buying them. The basket is 46x68, so we'll be using three supports per side. Total cost should be in the $300 range if we have to buy some...

    2019 Baja XL... who's in?

You don't need a big bike... they run the Dakar on 450s now and that's at blazing speed. We'll probably be on an XR400 (or whatever bike like that is easy to support at the time) whenever we do it. What's your car?

OK now I'm jealous. What bike are you running? Looking forward to meeting you in LA and seeing how you're doing the logistics.
