Do you actually use or need a pass thru window from camper to pickup?

The front window of my WilderNest is a slider. Two small panes with a joint in the middle. This lined up perfectly with the sliding back window in a pre 1995 Toyota pickup. It was huge, loved it. Toyota went to one large center pane that slides. Don't love it. Even skinny 20-something me...

Tundra frame compared to the Land Cruiser 200 and Ford F-150?

Toyota used fully boxed frames on their U.S. truck until 1995, which is when we got the Tacoma, which diverged from the global Hilux. Some parts are shared and the frames are similar in front. But the two are distinct designs. Tundra forked from the T100 that was a scaled up Hilux/Pickup...

After 8 years in a full size, moving back to a mid-size - Recommendations?

2m HAM (Dual): Monitor two 2m frequencies?

The higher end single band Yaesu radios have a pretty effective dual watch and priority scan. That can work as long as you don't need to actively monitor two conversations, which normally unless you're doing emcomm or similar nets you usually don't. And even then it's the net controller who...

SO, school me - I am a Toyota guy, with a problem....

Funny thing, I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Toyota fanboy now but I started many years ago with a 4WD Ranger. It wasn't the most reliable of trucks. Yet I was, still am honestly, kind of a Ford truck person. But in any case I jumped ship and was a long time 1991 Toyota owner, then 2008 and all around...

    "Noise Cameras" for loud pipes?

I find it ironic that those Harley owners in the loud pipes save lives orbit often intersect with the no lid crowd. You know what really saves a lot of lives? Wearing a helmet and not being a distraction.

    Off Road proof oil storage

I use small Nalgene bottles for olive oil and other cooking liquids. At least for 4, 8 and 16 ounce sizes. The square bodies in particular are nice since they pack easier. They also make their regular water bottles in 16 ounce, so that's an option if you want something more familiar...

    Ditch light / antenna mount

I used CBI ditch light mounts for antennas on my Tacoma. I ended up moving them but that wasn't due to any issue with the mounts themselves. I just didn't like having antennas there. They'd ********** the hood and roof when drive on tight trails, was actually a little worried it might crack a...

2m HAM (Dual): Monitor two 2m frequencies?

That's just telling you the radio can't receive anything between 174 to 375 MHz. It also cannot listen below 118 MHz or above 550 MHz. Note that these are just the range it can receive. It will only transmit on the ham bands, 144 to 148 and 420 to 480 MHz.

2m HAM (Dual): Monitor two 2m frequencies?

Maybe, I'd have to read the manual. I'd be very surprised if it could not do 2m+2m or 70cm+70cm at the same time. There may be some limitations, though. My dual band/dual VFO Yaesu radios can only do extended receive on the main band, meaning air band AM, wide band broadcast FM, etc. But...

2m HAM (Dual): Monitor two 2m frequencies?

For example here's a couple of radios. The FTM-500 is a dual band (2m and 70cm), dual VFO (two tuners) radio. https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/ysu-ftm-500dr#overview "True Dual Band Operation, C4FM/C4FM Digital D-D Dual Receive" The FTM-6000 is a dual band (2m and 70cm), single VFO...

2m HAM (Dual): Monitor two 2m frequencies?

Read the spec sheet. What radios are you considering? It's somewhat obvious when you look at a radio. If it displays two frequencies it's probably (but not always) a dual transceiver. The technical name for a radio that operates on two frequencies at the same time is "dual VFO" where VFO...

2m HAM (Dual): Monitor two 2m frequencies?

Radios that are scanning will stop on a frequency. You can usually adjust the dwell time, how long the radio stays on the frequency when it stops. You can make it stop scanning completely, restart when the activity stops, restart after some set period (perhaps 10 seconds). Some will not...

2m HAM (Dual): Monitor two 2m frequencies?

Dual can mean a couple of things. One is it can mean the radio covers dual (meaning two) bands, which as you notice most commonly is 2m (144MHz) and 70cm (440MHz), on which it can receive and transmit. Some radios will be called triband and quad band or multi-band if they can work on 3, 4, or...

Is regearing a Dana 35 really a waste of $$$?

That's basically what I was thinking. A D35 isn't as strong as a D44 or D60 but it's strong enough to do. So I'd throw out for consideration that re-gearing and putting in lockers can lead you down two paths. One is you will be harder on your truck tackling harder obstacles. That's the most...

Engel Power Cord 12v DC wiring. HELP!

If it works then not much to say but what a hack by the previous owner. Would it have been that much harder to put on a face plate with a couple of new connectors?

Engel Power Cord 12v DC wiring. HELP!

The fridge-side DC plug has long been a mystery and I don't know if anyone's figured it out. It's not a standard IEC configuration that I've ever come across and it has Sawafuji's name and information molded into it, so at minimum it's semi-customized and easily could be proprietary. Anyway...

Sounds like Stellantis is on the right path.

It's not configured as a charger, it's a generator. Traditionally the batteries on a locomotive just buffer the alternator output. They may allow very short runs on battery if there's pollution or noise restrictions through a town or something but it's not meant to be a primary mode. The...
