    Yet Another Skamper Build...

A couple more shots--here's what it looks like after a couple of coats of paint on the inside of the roof: Those are the wires for the lights sticking out. And here's a preview of the next part of the project--new fiberglass corners!

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

I used 1/4" OSB sheeting for paneling on the interior of the roof. After gluing it and using screws to hold it around the perimeter while it dried, I flipped the roof over and weighted it down with chunks of wood for the night so the glue would cure and the foam would be attached to the OSB...

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

Here's a shot of the rabbeted notch. Well into the project, I decided I wasn't happy with the center seam. There was a crack running lengthwise in the foam down the center. If you recall from previous picts, the roof had sagged quite a bit in the middle and strained the center seam. So I...

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

Ok. Time to post some photos of the roof rebuild. I decided I wanted the rebuild to be stronger than the original construction, although it lasted 23 years. The first thing I did was cut two slices about 1 1/2 inches apart across the roof where the aluminum strip joining the original panelling...

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

Wow! It's 11:30pm CST and I just finished rebuilding the Skamper roof! It's not actually totally done, but all the hard stuff is done! I'm stoked! I took bunches of photos, so I'll document the build very soon. Hope it will be some help to others with roof issues. I will say in retrospect that...

    Roof Fix

Welcome, LDR! I have been doing an extensive rebuild of a Skamper pop-top roof. I posted the link to the thread below. I've been making some progress lately and hour to finish it this week. I'll update with more photos as soon as I can. I'm not sure if they are constructed differently, but this...

    Original Skamper Manual

Hi Robert, The only info I have is what is available at the above link. If you can't get it there, let me know.

1989 Skamper 100S roof repairand roof corners

The foam that's original is the white beaded polystyrene foam that is 1" thick. I just saw it on sale at a local Menard's store for $3.98 for a 4'x8' sheet the day before yesterday. And you will need a glue that does not react with the foam. DO NOT use Weldwood contact cement--it eats foam big...

1989 Skamper 100S roof repairand roof corners

Welcome mopar01! I have currently been involved in such a restoration as yours. Mine is still sitting in the backyard with the roof removed. You should be able to acquire all the materials you need at your local building supply store. In fact, having studied my 080S roof, I believe you can...

slide in camper for short bed.

Craigslist is a great place to start. I had to drive 5 hours round trip to pick up my project, but I have very little in it (monetarily). You can find all makes, models, conditions and prices. And not everyone who owns a camper for sale knows what much about them. Get educated and happy hunting...

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

Willymutt, Mine had no ribs, just skin, foam and cardboard paneling. I don't know what kept these roof from sagging instantly! It will be rebuilt better.

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

Finally had a little time here and ther the past couple days to get the gunk off of the roof. It has been laying upside down in the backyard for the last week and a half, but, alas, it hasn't invited the rain to Southern Illinois. The "paneling" on the ceiling is merely contact paper covered...

slide in camper for short bed.

I own a '98 Dodge Ram 1500 shortbed and just acquired an 8 ft Skamper pop-up project. I left the tailgate down and the camper comes almost to the end of the gate. I also currently own an 8 ft Cameo hard-side camper which also comes to the end of the tailgate. If your budget allows for a new unit...

    Another Skamper project

Glad you're out enjoying your Skamper! We just spent a month on the road in a hardsde TC and my Skamper has a ways to go, but I'm looking forward to using it soon. Thanks for the inspiration and final goal!

    Original Skamper Manual

I recently purchased a project Skamper that had the original manual with it. Many technical questions that I have seen others post on the forum here may be answered from the original manual. Therefore, I hope these photos my be of assistance. Cover (smiling, happy Skamper owners) Roof Lift...

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

Got the roof off and, boy, is it a mess! I took several pics in case it might be of assistance to anyone else on upper canvas removal/replacement, also. There are about umpteen hundred screws to remove between the canvas and the lower lip of the roof. If you look up into the gap and follow the...

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

Just performed a "roofectomy." Taking a break for lunch. There's not going to be much to salvage except for the skin and the outer aluminum rails, but I'm confident that it can be rebuilt. I'll try to post pics tonight.

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

Willymutt, I was just looking at your thread on your sagging roof to get ideas for mine. I just took a break and went outside to ponder the roof situation. While there I must have doubled the value of it by just sweeping out all of the rotten wood! My roof is going to have to come off...

    Yet Another Skamper Build...

A month later... Just returned home from a one month, 6500 mile, 12 state tour of the Northwest. Wow! What a trip! And all 5 of us (me, my wife and 3 teenagers) did it all in an 8 foot hardside TC that sleeps 3 comfortably! Now I'm ready to begin tackling the Skamper. She's pretty rough now...
