Looking for advice from seasoned adventurers

We had a similar adventure planned for this summer in our LR3 but life got in the way. Assuming closing goes well in a week, it will be worth it and we'll re-attack next summer. Suffice it to say I'm still envious. As unpopular as it is in certain arenas (especially the book of Faces), you've...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

3rd weekend in the tent in a row. Did some roaming around WV on dirt too. Played with the starter drone a little. Weekend playmates. Out exploring the forest service roads. Inevitably I got few shots despite hours of driving There has to be a story to this. Fantastic food with friends...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

Ha, in fairness the EAS trucks running the trails did fine as it relates to their suspension. I just love stirring the pot b/c of all of the butthurt about coils on FB. You need to get up to the mountain!

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

Bit perplexed on this. I guess I could carry them for all the folks running EAS. I mean we end up using my recovery gear all the time may as well carry spares for them too! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

2nd of 3 straight weekends we'll spend in the truck down. Nothing significant to report with the truck other than she works. In this case I started my Fri am in Va Beach. When done with work down there, drove back to Northern VA, linked up with the wife, drove to WV to be there for the next...

GAP Diagnostic Tools: Questions and Dream Requests!

I know this will get the 'but coils are for zebadees' reaction (actually here it may not) but one thing I engaged with awhile back was if the tool could 'build' the truck as a coil sprung truck that would be awesome-but I got the sense the ability to retain terrain response was a technical...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

In an effort to continue earning the kind words about being forthright about the RTT and other things....shots from this weekend. We are looking at 3 straight weekends of camping, with a break, and then several more on the agenda as the summer unfolds so the tent will be earning her keep. This...

    Mud terrains or All terrains....?

For the sake of discussion it's worth noting the MT>AT in mud is inargueable, but the LR3>D1 weight difference is a tangible facet too (in a lot of the experiences being related). In my experience you'll want Maxtrax if you are doing anything significant with ATs, particularly in an LR3...

    Mud terrains or All terrains....?

Concur on the tire size, if you can't find 215/85/16 I'd suggest 245/75/16's. I ran VOT in my D1 on that size, it is actually probably a more elegant size on a mild build than then normal 235/85. I haven't checked, but that size in KM3's would be a tight package. That size in KO2's would be...

    Mud terrains or All terrains....?

I think you are going to find precious little difference between a KM2 or KM3 and a KO2 for your application. We could talk other tire brands I suppose, but I tend to find BFG suits the Rovers best and thus, once having found the right choice, I don't deviate. To your specific questions, and...

    Long Term Reliability of LR4

Hypothetically yes, of course that all takes that commodity that nobody ever gets back: time. Moreover, easier to drive is very relative...if someone thinks these are hard to drive I would be happy to let them roll my D1...or my S1. These things are cake to drive, have great turning radius...

    Long Term Reliability of LR4

I think the LR4 will be fine in terms of reliability beyond consumables already noted. Moreover, it's safe. And presumably paid for or significantly paid off, with a known history. So while smaller and efficient is good, the net costs may not be all that disparate. r- Ray

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

I hope to get to VOR but am reluctant to speak to soon since work ALWAYs conspires against me for that event for some reason-thus we've got it on the master calendar and are crossing our fingers. I'm surprised the flooring warped that much-that's unfortunate. I'm glad that I just went chicken...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

Answers to the questions from Sunrisehiker- There is a little more noise. The prospeed essentially has no significant noise, so adding the RTT-even as sleek as it is, increased that negligible noise somewhat. It is far from adversarial, and in truth below 70 it is unnoticeable. Yes, two bars...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

Finally at home for a weekend, which I guess is a good thing. Time for some more details to accompany the spring weather flurry to get MT's mounted and such. First, the other 19" 3U server rack drawer now has neoprene and foam in it. A nice discreet place if I want to lock up something that...
