    Explorer 1 gets a Stroker!

That switch will make a difference with a tranny that is having trouble keeping up..unless it is causing its own heat. With that sender location I believe you should be seeing a lower temp as you mentioned, I would say 150-175*. i installed my sender on the cooler line right as it comes out of...

Class III Hidden Hitch... really class II??

yeah, the heaviest load a ever towed was a loaded down MJ on a pretty stout car dolly....was probably the scariest 200 miles of my life. Second highest was a Honda Accord on a tow dolly which I think at the time was figured to be about 3500lbs total. Towed it with ease, up and over a few...

    Explorer 1 gets a Stroker!

What temp on the trans are you experiancing? and where did you install the sender? If you have the power/comfort switch on your model use the comfort mode as it keeps the torque converter locked more which will help keep your temps down.

Class III Hidden Hitch... really class II??

This is very important IMO for longevity of the vehicle. Every XJ I have ever seen that has been rear ended, the 'frame' buckles right past the aftermarket hitch mounting where the fuel filler passes through. Never seen one with the factory style have this problem as it extends past this point...

    What Jeep Cherokee???

1999 is the best year IMO. you get a high pinion front axle as stated above, is the 1st year of the higher flowing intake and the last year of the higher flowing not prone to cracking head. As also stated above you get the better 29 spline cryc 8.25 rear end if ABS is NOT an option, otherwise...

    downgrade?

From reading your post I would say just downsize to 31s and be done with it. if you are interested in progressing in the vehicles capability consider swaping the gears and and installing your choice of lockers or a decent limited slip. I wouldnt waste a dime on a D35 though. look into a...

Street Tire Pressure for BFG A/T 33x10.5s?

I have always ran 35 on the street and 10-20 on the trail-forestry roads. Wear has been even over 50k on a set of metric 33x12.50s

    New gear calculator/tire size question

My old XJ was a 1990 which had a slightly taller 4th gear at .72:1 which brings the calculated RPM to a little under 2400rpm @ 70mph. Might have been a little bit higher but I really cant remember so sure. I just remember being able to go 85mph without noticing the engine reving too high...

    New gear calculator/tire size question

just an update for those interested: After driving 1400 or so miles back from Denver Colorado via I70 to Moab Utah I am not sold on 4.88s and 33" tires. Several hours of 2750-3000rpm did not do well for my gas mileage. While it might have prolonged the need to downshift on several hills it...

    New gear calculator/tire size question

Well, I am picking the rig up on friday night and have a 1200 mile drive home over the weekend to determine my opinion. I have made this trip in my old jeep so i should have a good comparison. A really good set up IMO would be 265/75R16s (32") on rubicon Moab wheels (16x8 w/ 5" backspacing)...

    New gear calculator/tire size question

I had always though keeping the RPMs lower, closer to stock was they best way to get mileage... wrong! My last XJ came with 4.10s and 33s~ total dog, no power, crappy mileage. I regeared to 4.56s and same sized 33s~ probably the best modification ever, great power and great mileage. I have...

    Grand Cherokee opinions

A 2001 Xj has a low pinion front axle and the crack prone head but otherwise a great setup. Both relitively easy to swap compared to the whole engine/tranny. XJs have an AW4 auto which is a toyota tranny-very reliable.

    Grand Cherokee opinions

I dont have much to add other than I have seen a TON of WJs with bad 4.7 V8s going for cheap on craigslist. Several with tranny issues as well. Personally I think they arent as reliable as I would want and also too expensive to repair/replace the engine/tranny. I solid 4.0 would be my choice...

    Exrunners Xj

I have been kicking around a similar design for storage and a sleeping platform. I have thought about doing the same with the 2 door seats and extending the platform but have thought about making only one side be able to do this or at least have the option of only using one side at a time. Not...

    Looking for Tire Carrier Spindles

I built a tire carrier with the 1000lb trailer axle stub (1") and snapped it just like the one pictures earlier in the thread. My latch was a 5/8" screw type (similar also posted earlier) with a derlin landing pad and bumpstop that completely held the swing out from vibrating loose, jaring or...

    Another new XJ

I only trimmed because of the bumper. I could have easily fit the tires without trimming. I dont have the sway bar hooked up for trail use and it doesnt rub even articulated and having the wheels turned full lock L or R. It does rub the inner plastic but not enough to worry about and thats...
