The amount of slack you leave on a dynamic or kinetic strap/rope isn't critical but that you don't want or need to hit it with a metric crap ton of speed. ASR suggests a top speed of 15 MPH on their literature. Any way you look at it you should be in low range and probably 1st or 2nd with a...

The idea isn't to leave the whole thing slack and see if you can hit 3rd gen in high range when you tension the strap.

They are designed to do the exact same function as the tow hooks on a Jeep or Toyota or whatever truck so the exact same caveats apply. Whatever the manufacturer puts on there will be strong enough to handle the car's weight being pulled onto a tow truck or similar and that's all you can...

People over think this. Both cars we have ('02 Jetta and '17 Forester) included tow hooks. You'll see small squares in the front and rear bumpers. Those are lids covering places in the chassis to screw those in. They are probably in a small tool tray on the spare tire, where ever the jack...

Completely agree with everything you say about being a good human but just saying because we have hammers doesn't mean everything has to be a nail.

Every situation dictates the right approach. I've helped and been helped plenty of times on pavement and on trails so I try to help but there's been situations where offering a shovel or phone was the right thing to do instead of a strap or winch. My main concern with helping people on roads...

    Increasing Tacoma's GVWR

It can be done just not by any Joe filing a DMV form though. There are reasons an OEM might adjust GVWR but it's usually down to change its class for vehicle registration (usually to make it cheaper) or to make it legal to operate by a lower class of driver or on different roads. Also GVWR...

    E-bikes?

We've significantly reduced the miles of available trails. It's particularly impacting forms of recreation growing the most (bikes, OHVs). In some cases they/we were the primary trail users and maintainers. In one case around 180 miles was closed to MTBs in the Bitterroot to Wilderness Study...

    Increasing Tacoma's GVWR

Pretty sure only a recognized manufacturer can change the GVWR of a vehicle and lacking that you're going to probably need an engineer to write and stamp documents defending the modifications. It would I believe get a new VIN at that point. The original manufacturer certified the truck VIN and...

    12 V Fridge Quagmire

110 L is 116.2 quarts That's a big fridge. Like shade says you might want to get eyes on these to get a sense of floor space, internal space, how much room you'll need to open the lid or door. You want to make sure to size it big enough to fit want you want but not so big that it might be...

    12 V Fridge Quagmire

What size cooler do you typically use now? You can guesstimate a fridge will only need to be about 50% of that as a baseline because you immediately gain all the space that used to be ice. Our standard cooler was a 54 quart Coleman so I went with a 43 quart (Engel MT45) and that's been fine...

    Flippac help!!

It looks bigger than the "small" truck versions that fit the 1st gen Tacoma, early Ranger, S10, etc. It would look narrower on a 2nd gen Tacoma. A Dakota is a legitimate guess, they were a little bigger trucks but I'm not sure now much bigger than a 2nd gen Tacoma. If I was wagering a guess...

    235/85/16? Let's see them

The set of BFG KO2 non-DT I ran had the 3 peak mountain in 235/85R16, load range was E. Tread did wear fairly quickly so perhaps that's the reason for the DT version.

Even if the engineering field was truly viewed as a profession like medicine, law, accounting and thus had understood value added there wouldn't be any market for it when the consumption churn dictates cheap, throw away junk so management meets their quarterly goals.

LOL, I replaced both bumpers for aesthetics - they got damaged on the trail (plus a bonus taillight when the rear bumper wing bent up) and looked like crap.

Agreed on all points. I figured since any manufacturer probably can supply models for their chassis its mostly FEA analysis but in their marketing spiel ARB does say "Dozens of designs are explored, with the more promising models built into prototypes and tested on the actual vehicle chassis...

    Flashlights advice

Not being high speed, low drag I never really understood the 1,000+ lumen lights either. But our current house has a low ceilinged crawl space and the super high mode now makes sense. Being able to highly illuminate deep into it from the access port 25 feet away before contorting and crawling...

It looks to me like it wasn't even as bad as some. It looks like that at least attempted by cutting a relief in the bumper and had two welds. I see so many DIY and fab shops just weld a clevis on the face with a single filet pass around the edge. This one was a base metal (or at least HAZ)...
