    Monteros on craigslist

Listing says front end damage? Not visible in photos……even if it needs a whole new engine it’s worth a few k’s IMO. Rust free…..Montero bones are rock solid.

Having a hard time finding Montero Gen 3 parts in the Americas

RockAuto has a feature if something is out of stock, where you can click « notify me when available ». It actually works. They contacted me about 7 weeks later and I ended up buying the part.

Does this mean welding small dia aluminum tubing?

Move Vehicle with Trailing Arms Off

I’m taking this idea. I’ll just push one bolt in back and finger tighten the front one, which will be easy to remove after moving.

What type of welding going on here? I’d guess TIG?

Move Vehicle with Trailing Arms Off

I’m getting ready to do a little welding to repair the forward bushing mount locator rings. I do not want to weld this in my garage due to fire risk. Is it possible to move the truck at all with the trailing arms off or is this just a terrible idea? I only need to push it backwards 15 feet...

98 Trailing Arm Bushing WASHERS needed

Are the donuts compressed / flattened quite a bit once the torque spec is met? The old ones are pancakes, probably 1/4” thinner than the new ones.

What is the collector for the header? I’ve only ever know the word header to mean the heavy cast piece that bolts to the block….

98 Trailing Arm Bushing WASHERS needed

Here’s the plan: piece of tubing cut 3/8 high welded to each side. Not much fabricating really needed if this works. This should do the trick. Anyone see any issues with this idea? Pretty sure I have enough room to lay a MIG bead on the inside of the ring and some of the outside. Probably end up...

    1998 Montero rear end noise

What Charlie said might sound funny, but could very well be the source of your sound. I have actually had this happen to me before. If you have a decent spare tire try running it on each side of the rear for a drive, see if the sound changes at all.

98 Trailing Arm Bushing WASHERS needed

Thanks Toasty, this makes more sense now, huge help! I was wondering why this part wasn’t showing up ANYWHERE……welcome to the rust belt. So if I have something fabbed, they will need to be welded in place to prevent wandering right? I was able to pause a video and see what they are supposed to...

98 Trailing Arm Bushing WASHERS needed

These things Are they supposed to be split? Anyway, they are quite rusty and there isn’t much left of them. And by the way, I’ve never had one of these trailing arms off before. I’ve heard stories here on the portal of people breaking them, and I can’t imagine how in the he** that is possible...

98 Trailing Arm Bushing WASHERS needed

Doing this job……my washers need to be replaced. Can’t find them anywhere. Any help would be appreciated. This would be the big washers on the forward mount point.

Blocked coolant hose to heater core

Anybody know what the impact would be on overall coolant flow through the block if you blocked flow through your heater core? Would a blocked heater core slow the flow through the other passages? Could this stress the water pump?

    7" Round LEDs?

I personally have no interest in upgrading headlights……I just have other things to worry about I guess. I just adapt to the vehicle. Plus lighting is part of the experience. Would I like my Montero to have as good of lighting as my brand new car? Sure…..but it sort of ruins the nostalgia. Kinda...

    7" Round LEDs?

All headlamps though do require proper aiming, I agree you can’t adjust your way out of using an LED light source in a lens designed for halogen. You should always check your aiming though as they can and will blind oncoming drivers, even low beams will if not properly aimed. Heck I have a brand...

    7" Round LEDs?

I’m always hesitant to mess with installing new electronics on my headlights…..I’m worried that things like the polarity converter you installed would crap out on me at the worst possible time. Maybe I’m old school but I don’t trust this stuff yet on the aftermarket. No problem for secondary...
