Thanks.
This is going to sound stupid, but the screws went into the dash and there isn't any kind of backing plate under the dash attached to the screws? Don't know if the Taco dash is similar to my 4Runner, but my dash slopes down away from me towards the passenger side. I'm trying to figure...
Would you mind posting a couple of more close-ups and perhaps maybe a description of the steel metal mount on top of your dash? I'm contemplating something similar for my 4Runner. Thanks.
I'm not sure about the Tacos, but I've seen the computers from 4Runners moved up into the glove box. Sure you lose some storage space, but then again your comuter is about 12" higher.
I've been using headlamps for years for hunting and backpacking. Freeing up your hands is a big plus.
I recently added the Black Diamond Gemini to my SAR helmet:
I've been using the Petzl Tikkina while getting to my early morning hunting spots. It's a nice small, light headlamp. I even use...
Scott,
I don't know if this would be another point to consider, but many or most of our vehicles are also daily drivers, so should we also consider onroad v. offroad capabilities and try to find a balance between the two?
I think the 4Runner is under-rated. However since I purchased my used '01 4Runner, this is a question I frequently ponder . . . did I make the right choice?
Honestly, probably not. Not do to the make or model, but the year of my 4Runner. I should have done additional research and I would...
With a CO2 set-up, you can even blow all the dust bunnies out of your home PC and electronics. I'm sorry, but it's funny as hell to let a blast go and watch my cats race wildly upstairs.
Build a homemade CO2 set-up, it's easy and inexpensive. There are loads of write-ups on the Internet.
Go to a local welding supply shop and get a 10 or 20 lbs CO2 tank. Regulators start at $15 and can got up to $80+. The least expensive CO2 regs are usually the constant/static pressure regs...
I've got some write-ups bookmarked on building some rear cargo drawers I've been gathering in developing something for the 4Runner, you might find these useful (hopefully they are new to you):
FJ60 Heavy Duty Roll Out Drawer By Jim Brantley.
A nice design with 6 pages of drawings in a PDF file...
Scott,
That's pretty neat. It pod reminds me of another methods of mounting gauges. While poking around Radioshack I found these little ABS plastic project boxes:
The one in this example is 6x3x2" and makes a nice gauge pod. Use a dremel to cut the mounting holes in the face plate and mount...
I agree, the chrome is a bit "flashy" and prefer black. I wonder if he would fab an unpainted or painted aluminum panel with switches. I bet it would be alot less then the chrome verson.
After reading the write-ups on Expedition Exchange and the 4x4Wire, I had to pick one up for my repair kit I carry. They're really easy to use.
Safety Seal Website
OffroadRecovery has them for $39.00.
Also, 12voltguy can custom make switch panels for you, however they're alittle pricey:
Here's an example of a 5 switch panel, you can get custom engraving:
