    Modifying an OM364/366LA Engine

Sorry for the possible highjack, but the thread is dorment. Hi Rally Truck, I have a LAF1113B with an OM352A, 169HP. My question is, in your opinion, would you soup up the OM352A, or go look for an OM366LA instead? As far as I know, the block is almost the same, but the OM352 should rev higher?

    pivoting frames and mounting campers

Thanks and of course! I have read the accounts of the Unfortunate Unimog. LORD actually describes how these mounts can be “safetied” using a big washer, just like i.e. a standard Landcruiser body mount, and I plan on doing just that. If I can find a supplier, I plan on using J-21159-9, they have...

    pivoting frames and mounting campers

That sounds interesting! and you know the positives and the downsides. I have actually thought about this a lot through several years. I have read just about all the discussions, theories and real-world experience. I started a project on a Volvo TGB just because the frame is rigid. but two kids...

    pivoting frames and mounting campers

The guy from UNICAT actually describes Sitecs system, but calling it a 3-point... I guess you could view a 4-point as a 3-point with a mirror axis. The thing we can take from the UNICAT live stream is that you can add as many central points as you wish (theoretically), as long as they are all...

Mercedes LAF 1113 B family truck

Thanks Eckhard! Mine's ex-german firefighter too. It has diff lock in the rear axle, a lot of them do, it should be possible to find one. I have no idea of priscing in Argentina, but you could look in Germany on Mobile.de to name a place... Good hunting! They are really cool trucks!

Mercedes LAF 1113 B family truck

Well I have been toying a bit more in Fusion360, and found out how to simulate stress forces. That meant a few design changes! The pictures are of the subframe alone since I can simulate the stresses on that without the need of the chassis. First picture shows a load of 15.000N (3.372lb)...

Mercedes LAF 1113 B family truck

I’ll check, but it was pure guesswork. When I got the wheels they were at 9.5 bar or 137 psi!!! It drove terribly!!!

Mercedes LAF 1113 B family truck

True! But I was also referring to the gearshift, the steering column, pedals etc. Which means that I need the subframe and chassis to have the least movement up front.

They are Kronprinz, but I bought them from Walöter?

Mercedes LAF 1113 B family truck

Thanks! I have been studying all the other designs I have found, but the 4-point diamond design would mean a lot of movement up front, compromise the the controls.

Mercedes LAF 1113 B family truck

I believe it should work as intended, the only thing I can think of that might be a problem is hard cornering. It might lift too high for comfort on the inside corner. But that can be mitigated by a limit strap. Yes, I know, build projects takes longer and are harder than foreseen... And the...

Mercedes LAF 1113 B family truck

So I finally got the truck registered! That took forever and was ridiculously expensive! I hope to start building soon, but an opportunity came up, so we bought new (old) house with a bit more land, and sold the house we built a few years ago. That means my 200m2 shop will go in 1½ months...

Unimog or 911 for Family of 5

Hi stazieks, I used to drive unimogs in the army, and while they are impressive beasts in heavy offroading, they are extremely complicated mechanically, demand special tools, parts can be very expensive (look a brake caliper up, but sit down while you do it), and not very comfortable on the...

    U1300L Camper

That looks great! I suspect you are from Australia? Could you tell a bit more about the process, including which foam you are using, mats, resin etc? Are you involved yourself in the layup? I think there's a willing audience here :) I love the detailed build threads, and will be going down...

C5500 TopKick 4x4 Crew Cab Build

Thanks for the reply, and great to hear your are still using it. It seems your attention to detail and reluctance to cut corners in the build has payed of big time. Kind of ironic that the bought items has a bigger tendence to fail than your custom work, but I suppose that of-the-shelf stuff for...

C5500 TopKick 4x4 Crew Cab Build

Hi! Just re-read the entire thread for the third time, it took a week... Still an amazing build and log, with excellent info, thanks! Are you still using it, or have you moved forward on your new designs? Any update on long term use of different components and durability would be highly...

Build - Fiberglass & Foam Truck Camper

I just read your entire thread, very inspirational! We are planning something a lot bigger on an old Mercedes truck, and hate the conventional sandwich panel and prefab pultrusions look, it just doesn’t fit our truck. Your work makes me think that we can do better, thanks!
