This fire truck body on UK Hilux would make a great camping truck!

Here's what might be inside that body, from a website reference. Not so interesting inside now, I'd say. Doesn't look like it has a lot of room, even without the hose and pump. Perhaps there's an onboard tank that needs to be lost, too.

This fire truck body on UK Hilux would make a great camping truck!

This was one of the response vehicles last weekend at the Goodwood Members Meeting in the south of England. What a great utility body! I could find a lotta uses for that design...

    Front wheel storage during transport

Ah... I didn't read closely enough. I ride old skool on road. commuter, and mountain, so I put the taken-off wheel in the back seat or the bed. I've thought for years I need to get some wheel bags but I've never done it. They make adapters for thru-axles, don't they? 'Course, all that...

Mikey's Sprinter Expedition Camper: Cab and Interior

Mike, that Chrome extension worked perfectly here. It seemed to cause some problems on another forum I follow with posts not loading properly. Disabling the extension allowed that other forum to function. Seems to be a use-it-when-you-need it solution, not a universal fix. Thanks for the...

Can you still get the BFG old version All Terrain KO?

I'm with ya, PH4. I bought a set of five of the old style BFG AT KOs in 235/85-16 about three years ago, as the new style was phasing in. I have them on my 2001 Tacoma DC and I like 'em a lot. The new style with the more aggressive sidewall design looks a little too much for my taste. I...

    Watches - ExPo Style

I tend to spend a good bit more than $10000 on my vehicles. Considerably less on my watches, even considering a Rolex Submariner at about $2900 twenty-plus years ago. That watch has been very satisfying to own all that time, has worked flawlessly, and could be resold were I so inclined for...

    Waterbrick for fuel?

There's a TON of literature on fluorination as a surface treatment to reduce permeability of polyethylene for use in gasoline tanks on motor vehicles. This is pretty old tech... Here's an example. http://www.barrierplastics.com/uploads/FLUORINATION_ARTICLE_09_23_09.pdf

    Waterbrick for fuel?

I wouldn't dream of storing fuel in a plastic container that wasn't made for that purpose. The typical polyethylene fuel container is fluorinated to give resistance to gasoline/diesel/etc. A water container doesn't have that chemical treatment and won't give long term results for fuel. For...

    Salt and Pepper shaker recommendations?

I have a set of those mini-Tupperware containers linked by OCD Overland that are at least fifty years old -- we used them camping when I was a little kid -- and they still work fine. But I also have a compartment in my plastic kitchen utensil Plano box that's stocked with fast-food...

6-wheeled G in town for 2017 Monaco Grand Prix

Saw this one as it was driving around the circuit after it was opened to traffic on Saturday before the Monaco Grand Prix the next day. Entering Casino Square. If this is an illogical vehicle anywhere it's doubly so in Monaco! Quick grabs with the camera -- apologies for the quality.

Solar roof cable entry, how to get through the roof?

It's pretty easy to get stuff from the UK. That shouldn't stop ya if there isn't a US source. Here's how the light bar was wired on one of the Porsche Cayenne Transsyberia cars on display at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show: Here's how the Monegasque police wire the light bars on their Renault...

    Poor range on key fob?

This works -- trust me. Try holding the fob in contact with your chin or your forehead. I do this on my 2001 Tacoma and it gives at least 5x the range I get otherwise. Somehow the body becomes a larger antenna for the RF, or something... Learned it from Jeremy Clarkson on an episode of Top...

    Do you crumple or fold?

It fits a lot better in the stuffsack if the tent and rainfly are folded first. Folded the wrong word for what I do, though. I roll the tent and fly with as few folds as possible.
