I too, doubt a space saver spare would last very long off-road. You can get a tire winch from and stick it underneath. I did that with both my M-416 and Scout trailers and never had clearance issues. You never mentioned what trailer you have.

The trick to making any bag like this to last is to only use it on trips. After a trip , wash the bag with soap and water and get all the dust off.
