    Colorado Duramax thread

Well considering the weights (dry and wet) of the campers that some of those Tacoma's are carrying around, I don't understand how it's feasible either. An A/T habitat camper shell I think it is perfectly feasible for this category of trucks. Anything heavier is better off in a 1/2 ton or larger.

GM might be the only one to explicitly state it, but realistically all these restrictions apply to the Tacoma as well. People toting around bed-mounted campers with fully kitted Tacaom's are well outside of OEM specs, but they do it anyways. An A/T camper should be fine so long as the payload...

    Ram with canopy

It’s not the canopy weight I’m referring to, it’s how high the overall flatbed platform looks. I’m sure that’s due in part to the lift and not solely the flatbed. I’m not saying this Aussie canopy flatbed combo is utter crap. I know those setups have proven their worth in Australia and other...

    Ram with canopy

I suppose in overseas markets where flatbed trays are sold by the OEM’s and chassis trucks are fairly common, that setup could make sense. Here in North America, those canopies are rare and expensive. Flatbeds are common enough, though I don’t think the domestic ones would be compatible with an...

    Ram with canopy

Looks cool, but I really can't see many US owners spending big $ on that thing. It seems like a very expensive styling statement more than anything else. The COG is raised up on a vehicle that is already sitting quite high. Not to mention you can probably get a lot more storage capacity out...

Talk me out of the TRD Pro

Blasphemy! But seriously, saying that a Harley is 100 year old technology is like saying that the pushrod's (both gasoline in diesel) still used in numerous truck platforms are outdated.

    Question regarding MPG

For the northern areas (Alaska, northern parts of Canada) fuel availability can be a real issue. If you go check out Canada's overland route directory at Gravel Travel you'll see that fuel stations are pretty sporadic in certain areas. Overlanders have to plan accordingly, especially bikers...

    Colorado Duramax thread

Adding a camper to your Colorado won't automatically "void" your warranty. If GM can prove that the camper caused a malfunction requiring repair, they can deny your warranty claim for that issue. Toyota Tacoma isn't exactly rated to carry a camper + all the traditional mods you see owners...

    Question regarding MPG

@Martinjmpr, yeah overseas seems to have more uncertainty in terms of fuel than what we have in North America. But even during some trips into parts of Ontario, I’ve found that fuel stations aren’t always open as advertised or that fuel quality is substandard. The extra fuel capacity...

I think you'll be spending more than several thousand to outfit a base Colorado the same way a ZR2 is.

    Colorado Duramax thread

Awesome review of the ZR2. Sounds like it is delivering the capabilities that GM advertised. Your report of 24 mpg combined is a truly indicative of how efficient this 2.8l diesel is; if your ZR2 is getting that good of mpg, I'd imagine that the less-modified trims are getting even better...

Coddiwomple_couple 7.3 Diesel Mountain River Shuttle Build

That's a pretty sweet build. Is that camper and tray setup a custom job? OP, looking forward to updates on this. BTW, where did you find that picture? I'm interested in learning more about that front bumper.

Vehicle research: RAM 1500 info sought....

I wasn't criticizing the fuel economy, but it is what it is. We can caveat that with exceptions for modifications and towing, ect., but comparing stock to stock, the 6.4l 2500 has lower fuel economy compared to others....that's all I'm saying.

Vehicle research: RAM 1500 info sought....

The big features (by that I mean hard to replicate on the aftermarket) that the PW has over vanilla 2500 are: articulink front suspension (allows for more articulation out of the front radius arms), disconnecting sway bars (allows for more axle articulation), front and rear e-lockers. Yes you...

    F-150 Diesel

The VM Motori I think though has always been its own entity, even when Detroit Diesel owned it. They do have a pretty lengthy history of building diesels, as you point out @DaveInDenver. I'm sure some of them are fine. They build a 2.8l diesel which is used in the overseas Jeep and it was the...

    F-150 Diesel

To be fair to FCA, I do think their newer trucks are whole lot better than their older ones ever were. Better build quality, better designs, better outsourcing for many components (Aisin, Borg Warner). Heck, their gasoline Hemi engines are pretty damn reliable and I'd have no problem putting...

Change plan from 4runner to Tundra?

Your 4runner is already built and modified for overland travel (not that a stock Tundra is incapable of going offroad and exploring). You already have money and time invested in one platform. I would use that platform rather than changing gears to the Tundra. As you noted, neither platform is...

    F-150 Diesel

Yep, the current version of the 2.8l Cummins is not EPA-compliant for the newer trucks. But I'm sure Cummins could make it compliant if it wanted to. It already has an EGR and Diesel Oxidation Catalyst, so with some tuning and SCR and DPF, I'm sure Cummins could easily bring it up to modern...

    F-150 Diesel

This is true. I think Cummins or another big engine maker did a fuel efficiency study recently where they concluded there was a 20%-30% variance in mpg based purely on driver habits. And yeah, those EPA testing standards do seem a bit outdated. What speed are they even using for that highway...

    F-150 Diesel

It has EPA certification now. Though that 3.0l ecodiesel has had its fair share of reliability issues. I know a few owners on here have reported relatively trouble-free ownership, so maybe that's just a few bad apples creating a bad name for the whole group..I'm not sure. It would be nice...
