    Ford Ranger Debut

This is true, but on the flip-side the internet community also does tend to make mountains out mole hills. If just one 6.7L Cummins goes into shop or if one GM IFS breaks down, all of a sudden it becomes a brand-wide problem. You have to admit though, that truck would be pretty awesome.

    2019 Tundra

A lot of people, including self-proclaimed Toyota fans (like myself), would say that is exactly the problem with Toyota's strategy in North America

    2017 Ram 2500 - Post Divorce Therapy

It could perhaps be a point of failure down the road. I haven't heard of it being a common problem for the Ram 2500/3500. With the way technology is trending now, such intake designs could very well become the norm in the years to come.

Ford f550 vs Dodge 5500 for expedition vehicle

2 hours to remove? How much more time to put them back on? 1-2 hours? The problem is that the cab removal adds 3-4 more hours of labor costs to the overall repair and maintenance costs. It also precludes DIY-minded owners from tackling certain procedures in their own driveway. The fact that...

    2019 Tundra

Anecdotal evidence on an internet forum means next to nothing. The new F-150's and GM Silverado's are just as well-made as the current Tundra's IMHO. Toyota has a solid reputation for reliability. But domestic vehicles, certainly trucks, have begun to rival Toyota within recent years. If I...

    Ford Ranger Debut

I too would guess, and hope, that Ford offers the 3.2l inline 5 diesel as an option. It has a proven track record overseas and within North America. If people really want the utmost fuel economy, the 2.2l inline 4 seems like a solid option. I just hope that Ford doesn't decide for the...

    2019 Tundra

Toyota is still up near the top IMO, though I do think other domestic companies have started to close the gap in regards to that issue. You can get a stripped down F-150 that is comparable to the base Tundra's.

Ford f550 vs Dodge 5500 for expedition vehicle

That's the thing about the internet: everyone's truck gets +8mpg higher than the rated average...

    ExPo's 2000 7.3 Excursion Build

I thought the Ford E series stopped using diesel about 10 years ago? Also, I believe their vans use twin I beam front suspensions, not solid axles. Can't speak for GM's stuff. Anyways, we're derailing the thread. I was noting that the diesel excursion doesn't have many comparable vehicles...

    2019 Tundra

I'm not a fan of the c-channel construction either. The leaf springs are still widely used in truck applications where high payload is needed. Even some variants of the sacred LC 70 still use leaf springs. C-channel frames aside, the Tacoma and Tundra are well-built IMHO. Same for the...

    2017 Ram 2500 - Post Divorce Therapy

Jimbo, I've read similar descriptions of Ram's Active Air system. In light of all that, do you think a snorkel makes sense for the Ram 2500? It seems that Ram's proprietary system is already set up to draw in clean and cool air.

    ExPo's 2000 7.3 Excursion Build

Capability similarities aside, the Excursion is the only recently-produced, North American BOF SUV that comes with front and rear solid axles and a diesel engine. By nature of being a unique vehicle, it will fetch a higher resale value. I agree not everyone wants or needs a solid front axle...

    Ford Ranger Debut

Some parts may be interchangeable, but the overall platforms are in fact different. Sharing of common axles, engines and even some suspension components between different platforms isn't uncommon, for Toyota and for vehicles in general. The 4runner and FJ Cruiser (and the Lexus GX 460) are...

    Ford Ranger Debut

Do you have a link to the leaked spec sheet? I don't think there is a whole lot of parts crossover between the 4runner/FJ and the Tacoma. The former is built off of a completely different platform (the LC Prado) from the latter. Agree. Toyota's 4x4's are damn reliable and do well on the...

Police in California and CCW Permits

Renting a heavy truck is fairly easy, and those have been used often enough in different types of attacks. Also, do you have to get a NICS background check every time you want to rent a plane?

Ford f550 vs Dodge 5500 for expedition vehicle

Plenty of owner feedback and even a TFL review show an empty 6.7l Cummins Ram 2500 getting +20mpg on the highway. Driving style and gearing plays a part in that, but also I think the Cummins has been known for being a bit more efficient than the comparable diesel V8's. I don't know how much...

    2019 Tundra

Toyota's platforms (frames, chassis) have actually seen development over the years and are very well-built IMHO. The underlying platforms are fine; it's the engines that need some serious updates. Toyota (at least in North America) is still relying on naturally aspirated gasoline engines while...

    Ford Ranger Debut

I think people are jumping to premature conclusions on the engine options. Ford has already announced a diesel option for the F-150. There were very strong indicators that they are planning on introducing a diesel variant for the Ranger as well. The vehicle hasn't even hit showroom floors...

Ford f550 vs Dodge 5500 for expedition vehicle

I'm pretty sure there are members on this forum with the Ram 2500/3500 and a camper setup who've been getting ~15-16mpg on their journeys. The 5500 might be a little bit heavier, but otherwise it's the same basic platform and powertrain; 5500 I think only comes in DRW. If we're talking SRW, 15...

Ford f550 vs Dodge 5500 for expedition vehicle

If you're going with a 5500, I assume it's because you want to carry or tow a big load. High payload/towing, 150k miles of use, diesel makes sense in my book. The emissions systems, while not perfect, are certainly much improved over the earlier variants. Plenty of people getting into high...
