On another note, I had the "water in fuel" light go on when approaching the top of 2 quite large hills, but then turn off within a minute of leveling off; then after another few hours of driving it turned on and stayed on. I had the tank pretty low at that point (a tad less than 1/8 tank) so I...
Thanks for the info – I think I'll just do them in place and be careful not to overspray all the pretty new pieces! What kind of paint is recommended here? Rust-Oleum undercoating, or real paint?
Also, I appreciate the note about the flip – I think I'm going to leave the bolts the...
Those are *really* great tips - to be honest it's quite easy to forget about rust living in SoCal.
I guess doing this the right way probably means trimming them in place, pulling and painting them, and putting them back?
I imagine I could just take one out at a time without even using a jack...
Without further ado, some photos:
Home at last. We just picked it up early this morning because my wife and I just didn't have the schedules to make it happen earlier – 100 miles later I couldn't be happier.
The team over at Diesel Tech did a truly top-notch job. All the modifications look...
Thanks for all the kind words – yes, that axel is purdy! I didn't really intend to go all out on it, but I'm really glad I did :)
At this point I am quite sold on the black rockers and the "steel" top, and I'll be starting that project VERY soon – thanks everybody for all the help...
We did this on all 4 door windows... Probably the easiest project we've done and highly recommended. Here are pix of the rear:

Ok! A couple more pix - it's standing on its own legs. Turns out I need a different linkage for the transfer case shifter... So I'll be hitting up Chris in a moment [emoji16]
It still has to get its new/modified drive shafts and then it's back in our driveway where we'll hopefully make some...
OK, steel it is. I think I might prefer the look of charcoal a bit, but it's just too dark to be practical in the desert and there's more to vans than being really, really ridiculously good looking ;-)
Also, I've been playing around with the idea of keeping the rocker panels black which is...
color palette
OK, so I wasted the past hour in Affinity Photo (I have a case sensitive filesystem, so I don't use photoshop anymore...) figuring out what a Type II ambo might look like in different color liners... I added a lift and my wheels for a better visual. As silly as this little...
I think you may be right... anybody need some black Raptor Liner? ;-)
We were going for something between these in terms of color:
Looking at other bed lined vehicles I really prefer the darker shades (with volcomsurfer's rig being a major exception)... I guess this is something to talk...
Ya that was my concern too... the roof is going to be almost completely covered in solar (with an inch gap), but I am afraid the sides will really heat the thing up too much in the sun. I try to reason that we might want that when we're in colder areas, but in reality we'll probably be spending...
I'll post a bunch more as soon as I get the van back :) it's been taking them a bit longer than I was hoping, but I have more than enough other projects to keep me beyond busy right now, so I have no reason to make a stink.

Today we mixed up a few different shades of gray U-POL Raptor...
Thanks for the recommendation, these look fantastic – I searched around for some bolt-on ones (I don't have a welder where I live now, but maybe it's time to invest?), but I really couldn't find anything rated for > 12k lbs. I know that when choosing a snatch strap you're supposed to go...
I would be skeptical of the Crow/Javier. I almost bought one, but the photos on the U-Joint Facebook of Chris fixing one of those scared me straight.
I have a 7.3 that's getting UJOR right now. If you aren't familiar with the engine, know that it is NOT quiet... But it's solid. Mine has >250k...
