    Gramps 2.0 - Gen3 Montero Budget Build

Stopped by the junkyard the other day to pick up some bits from an 06 montero. Unfortunately, it was the dvd version so no sunroof parts. I got the upper and lower gloveboxes (since the latches on both of mine are broken), the sun visors (slightly bigger and cloth instead of that weird brittle...

Removed the 3rd row today. One of the sides did not want to let go and after about an hour of lubricating and prying, I said ******** it and took out the sawzall. Less than a minute later, it was out. Doubt anyone would want to buy it now but I don't think there was a big market for them before...

Haven't done much but took another trip, this time up to the Eastern Sierra. Started early at Red Rock Canyon State Park to check out some of the crazy rock formations before getting melted by the heat. When we left the Mojave around 9-10am, it was already almost triple digits. So we headed...

Took a short trip to Los Padres National Forest yesterday with my mom and siblings. None of them had been in years but have been begging me to take them. So I picked a really simple site; short drive, bathrooms, non-extreme temps, short hike to a waterfall, good scenery, not much offroading. It...

Just realized I never posted pictures of the install of the new transfercase switches and crossmember bushings. I keep forgetting to take pictures during and so I end up taking half-assed ones afterwards. I'll get better I swear lol. I ended up the job myself because I had time and wanted to...

Since I'm out of funds at the moment I've decided to start keeping track of how much I spend fixing and upgrading. If anything, it'll be a nice maintenance record for the next owner. Next most urgent fix is timing belt/water pump since I have no record of when the last one was done. But that'll...

My fog light bezel finally came in today. Took 3 weeks to ship from China, but it only costs $14 and it looks perfect! Here's the link for anyone looking for one...

Unfortunately it's already installed so I can't return it, but I'll keep that in mind if it goes out.

Battery was showing 10.9 volts when the car is off. Big yikes. Surprisingly, the car still started, just slower than usual. So I replaced it with a Duralast Platinum AGM. Pretty sure its just about the cheapest AGM you can get that still has a 3 year warranty. Also picked up a new negative brass...

Today I removed my tailgate panel to remove the old netting and install a little flip down table. Used a $12 cutting board from target and about $7 in hardware from Lowes. I was looking for something a little longer for more space to work with, but this seems alright for now. I can always switch...

Replacing some old vacuum hoses and ran across this little plastic connector. Anyone know what it is? Is it necessary or can I just replace it with a full length of hose?

Do you still do every 3000 miles with synthetic? They're supposed to have longer interval, right? I ended up going with Chevron 10w-40, since its been reaching >90f and is only gonna get hotter around here. Maybe next change I'll go for synthetic instead.

Still waiting for parts but did a short trip to Sequoia National Forest. I was pleasantly surprised with the mileage, 21 gallons got me 400 or so miles. My old lifted outback with the giant roof rack would be lucky to get 250 on 16 gallons. I'm planning on doing an oil change soon, what are...

I also further diagnosed the 4wd issues, using the 1-4 obd pin method. This video helped a lot: Code 33, malfunctioning switches. Good news is I found a guy on the socal montero facebook group that will replace them for $200. OEM switches are about $35 each (5 of them), I bought them from...
