    Saltwater Engel

If the fridge is inside I wouldnt worry too much, but it might be worth getting a cover for it. I'd think twice about lashing it to the deck outside however!!! Sean

    12V Desk top Lamp

Just go into a shop that sells desklamps and buy one with a 12V halogen bulb. In the base of the light there'll be a transformer, bypass this and wire it up with whatever sort of plug you like :) Sean

Yeah you may recognise it from there, I have some scans of the articles but it really spoils the quality to shrink them and post here. Sean

I'll be up at work for another week, if the thread is still alive then I'll post some pics of my HJ60, until then here's some pics of my beast of a 79 Series work troopy The first pic shows the rear work light, to the right is the reversing camera, both are triggered off of reverse but the...

water pump/faucet for milspec jerry can?

I've seen caps that attach to the cans, with a pipe going to the bottom, and an air fitting in the top, pumping the can up with air pushes the water out :) Also commonly used to get fuel out Sean

    Cool little gadget...

For the camping I do for leisure (as opposed to my work) I've been using a little jump start pack to run fluro lights off of. It worked really well until I tried to jump start off it one day... It was only a 10A SLA battery apparantly! Anyways after I destroyed it, I needed something to replace...

    Diesel chip question

If a manufacturer could reliably get more power out of an engine, with better fuel economy, with something as simple as tuneing, then they would! IMHO its impossible to reliably get more power with less fuel consumption and have no detrimental effect on reliability Sean

    Waterproof 110VAC receptacle

In the footwell of a vehicle, I'd be worried about the back of the socket getting wet, especially if the inverter is energised whilst the vehicles moving! I had a close call once with a 2.5kva inverter when I got swept off of a crossing - the inverter got wet, but luckily I didnt get shocked! Sean

Anyone Can Help With Roll Bar Ideas For 80&75 Troopie?

Roll bars are deffinatly available for the troopies from Aust. The bar in my vehicle is a custom job, to meet the requirements for carrying nuclear isotopes, and also for use on mine sites - basic roll cages are available as a kit however. Sean

    donaldon pre filters

Steel snorkels have been available in the past (in aust), they consisted of round steel pipe and angle joints. Many were of quite agricultural construction, but have stood the test of time and are still visable on the roads. My 60 series is not fitted with a snorkel, I have never needed one...

    Practical Winch Line Handling Question

First of all, I've never used one of these for winching a vehicle... In my line of work, we use winches spooled with around 1100m of wire rope, with conductors in the center. We then run survey tools down drill holes, and occasionally one will get "stuck" The winch only really has a pull...

Scored new stove from Sear clearance area!

While studying I worked at Kmart filling shelves at night, and often had a portable barcode scanner. One night I happened to scan a portable jump starter, it was only small (no chance of starting a cruiser!) but had a stack of accessory sockets. Bought it the next day for the princely sum of...

Nah my cheque book doesnt extend that far, it belongs to the boss! It's my mobile office / workshop / laboratory / sometimes accomodation! As soon as I can find someone to hold the other end of the tape I'll get some measurements for you. Sean

    Random "Duct Tape" shots

Had an airline on a booster/auxilary to an RC rig blow (1000+ PSI and lotsa CFM) On investigation some helpful person had repaired a hole in the airline with duct tape, and then put zip ties around it to help hold the pressure. I've got a 79 series troop carrier outside in the carpark with...

    Tool Safety

Always have the spare under the vehicle if you're under the vehicle, even if you're a big bloke like me the worst you'll get is some crushed ribs (rather than a wooden box) Don't park in long dry grass with a hot exhaust If something goes wrong, and nobody is bleading, the first thing you...

Proper way to make a slim waterproof wire splice.

Soldering gives just about the best conductivity for a joint, but for an offroad vehicle I wouldnt recomend it... The biggest problem is that heating the copper with the soldering iron weakens it, and it becomes brittle around the join. For inside the vehicle I use normal sorts of crimps (good...
