I'll have a full write up of my impressions of the Outback on the home page in a few days.
And yes, I love my job. Spending an entire week evaluating a car, and nothing else, is really interesting.
I've had the pleasure of spending the last week in a Subaru Outback on loan from their press fleet. I've spent the entire week testing it on the same tracks where I have tested other small vehicles like the new Cherokee, our lifted Patriot, etc. We also put 800 miles on the Outback in that time...
p nut, that is from last August in Iceland. It is a section of really difficult trail by Lake Alftlavatn on the Laugavegur Trail that runs from Lanndmanalauger to Skogar, about 80 miles. A damn hard 80 miles.
In that shot you can make out the trail in the background. That was a good rideable...
Uhg, I really don't want to haul these things all the way to OvExpo. I'm already going to be loaded to the gills and I seldom have ten minutes to myself at that event. Any chance you boys might make it to Prescott? By the way, I think I found a fifth oven, another 12".
Let me think about the...
So, my dear dad is a bit of an eccentric dude and loved big group cooking events and competitions involving Dutch ovens. Technically, these are "camp ovens" with the rimmed lids for coals and the legs beneath them. These are all made by Lodge. They're all in good condition, if not just a little...
I know, right. I find I go to the garage to select a bike with more funky criteria than ever before in my riding days. Some days I don't feel like pushing fat tires up the climbs. Some days I wan't squish and narrow tires. Or, squish and mid-fat tires. Or, narrow rigid. Or, full fat squish.
From what I can glean from your posts, you sound like you really just want a Toyota over your Landy, and that's okay. I just wouldn't justify it by saying you need something for off roading, as I guarantee you...it isn't really going to be that big a deal when you're there. I drove nearly...
Having had a few different RTTs on a few different trucks and cars, I'm of the opinion that people should be more cognizant of roof loads than they are. It's one thing to install an 8 pound Yakima Whispbar or Thule Aeroblade base rack and then a light 100-130 pound tent and call it quits. But...
I lived on Kauai for five months. You may not like my suggestion, but here goes. Just take your Disco II there and give it a nice place to die when you leave it behind. There's a couple things to know about Kauai. First, you can drive from the south side to the north side in about an hour. It's...
Just another saddle/chamois tip: For longer multi-day rides I will often bring a second pair of shorts, but one with a different chamois shape. If mid-trip I develop saddle discomfort, swapping to a different chamois shape often relieves those sore spots.
4.25 inches from the top tube, or from the top of the seat tube collar? If from the top tube, ya, that sounds like a frame that is much too big. Got any images to show us?
I'm not terribly wild about those seat bag options, but that's a different deal all together. Those things will certainly...
Here's a pic of the entire kit. I'm petty motivated to sell this setup. I'll entertain reasonable offers.
In fact, regardless of the final price, I'll even throw in a LowePro 180 Messenger camera bag that had a retail of almost $200...
You could also add the James Baroud Horizon Vision to the list. I've been using one on my Patriot for about six months. At roughly 100 pounds it's one of the lighter options on the market.

I use either Thule Aeroblade...
