Basic info on converting GM vans to 4x4.
I don't know of any aftermarket vendors that supply parts or kits to convert GM vans to IFS or Solid axle.

It's possible that it was made at the end of 2002 when they started the new gen, or I could have remembered wrong. I looked for it but the add was gone.
Are you going to buy an AWD van and swap the body? There was a factory 2002 AWD 2500 recently for sale around here but I don't know if it was an 8 lug.
The TTB performing better offroad at higher rates of speed makes a lot of sense to me but I'm still trying to understand the crawling up off a beach in the sand thing.
What you are describing sounded like wheel hop due to axle wrap but a linked suspension system shouldn't have that particular...

Regarding the rattles in the pop top. I mostly noticed it on gravel roads and occasionally on the pavement. The added weight on the roof contributed to a little more body roll when cornering. It's not a bad deal, just a trade off. Seems like most people that have them are happy with the set up...
