So for those wondering why I didn't just go Joolca, it has to do with the fact that it, just like a Camplux would require modification to suit my needs, and the Joolca is easily double the cost of the Camplux for the same feature set. The basic water heater, with shower hose, and propane hose...
Very, and I mean VERY nice! If you push the back over 1 or 2", maybe use the space to stash something skinny, you should be able to fully open that lid with the fridge in place.
I haven't had stock tire size on this thing since 2006. Not sure I mentioned it, but I bought the truck as lease return, so it was just over 24 months old when I got it. The Hankooks that were fitted were junk. I swapped in 285/70R17 All Terrain TAs almost immediately.... Back then they did not...
Yeah, it's a 4 speed mushbox....
Doing the calculations between OE towing package (3.73) and the difference with the larger diameter tires. 4:56 would make sense if I stay with 35s, 4.11 makes sense with 33s...
And initial setup of the Camplux is done, first test is done. OUCH!
Okay in all fairness I am testing this thing in late July, in coastal Texas. My water is hot to begin with...
Turned water up all the way, turned gas down all the way and 2 things noted.
#1. This thing gets stupid hot. I mean...
Progress-ish...
I am unsure if I mentioned it here yesterday, but the Camplux 5L came in yesterday.
I am planning on a 19" clearance from the bottom of the truck bed to the underside of the bed rails. I At the bottom of the connections it measures just at 19". Problem. I either have to use...
Good catch. And fixed in my post. Yes it should be a 9.75" on an '04 with the 5.4L and 4wd.
If I recall correctly, the gear ratios available for that diff are 3.55, 3.73, 4.11, and 4.56, then some crazy ratios not wanting to go to.
With the fender trim and HD coils, the 35s do not rub except...
The temp issue is something I was concerned with. I believe the Camplux has a max temp rise of 75 deg F. I am used to using my Zodi in winter camp and it takes at least 10 minutes or more of recirculating the water back into the source bucket when starting with 45 degree water to get it into...
Well, for the truck camper build as the F150 is in process of being rebuilt. Specifically the 5.4L 3v. I have a Camplux 5L out for delivery today. I am planning on a camper shell sleeper build. Specifically a hi top sleeper, with a platform bed as I am doing a bed for a couple, so a queen...
Just FWIW, I don't run CPAP off the genny itself. I use the genny to power the charging circuit for the battery. Honestly I could probably just throw a cheap solar panel / charge controller on top of the cap and cover the CPAP, and even lights and a fridge. It's when we get to high draw...
Well as I may have mentioned, the oil change place apparently wasn't always doing their job, so yeah, the rocker valleys are kind of nasty.
I was planning on having the heads tanked. However rumor has it the oil passages in these heads are kind of on the tiny side... Is there anything I should...
Any pointers on the VCT system for the rebuild. I am doing this with my BIL, he's a long time Chevy guy though so the Ford VCT weirdness is throwing us a bit...
I know to stay with Motorcraft on the phasers, chain, tensioners etc... Only internal non OEM part I am planning on is a Melling high...
Well, the fancy computer controlled engines, and IFS on the 4wd haven't helped that part... But I totally get it.
It does drive great, even lifted mildly with mud tires, All Terrains and it is a completely civilized drive...
Mine is an '04 with the 3V 5.4, so power is considerably higher at a factory 300. I am in process of rebuilding now, but not the point...
The features I am most interest in are...
#1. Under bed battery box. How did you source that? Would something like that be rigged for a dual battery setup...
Photos pending. Sorry I can't find them at the moment, but I wanted to start the build thread for my '04 F150 XLT Supercab 4x4 5.4L 3V.
So here is the status so far.
Truck.
2004 F150 XLT Supercab 4x4 5.4L 3V. Engine rebuild in progress. All upgraded hardware with TSB fixes on the VCT system...
I wanted to comment on your build as I am doing something similar and I am currently reading your first page so there may be changes.
I have an '04 F150 4x4 Supercab non LS rear end, 5.4 with 3.55 gears that is in the process of having the engine thoroughly tanked and rebuilt top to bottom...
Just FWIW, I haven't seen the specs on the Joolca, but the Camplux 5L is rated at 28K BTUs.
So the deal here is this. As long as I am still tenting out of a mid size sedan, I am not going to be going with one of these. And I might just leave the Zodi at home as well...
The heater would be...
I've actually got 4 of the older Coleman Extendible tent poles. The plan, long term, is going to be use them for awning poles for a DIY awning when I finally pull off my camper build.
