Sprinter Camper Van. Pure Luxury. 3500 extra long 4 Season, Generator, Seats 8-10 in colorado

R-32 foam insulation, so about 5" all around the van? Probably worth a million bucks! My nine closest friends would love me...

    Sand mats

A roll of chain-link fence will do to get a semi on and off a beach, but its a bit much to haul around. You might consider sections of fiberglass grating, which has a pretty huge surface area for anchoring, and can be made with a gritty grip surface. I use 2"x2" grid 2" thick, and only flexes a...

Dometix CFX 50W Normal or Problem?

Poor contacts in a plug (especially the lighter type) will drop your voltage as well. If you wire the cord directly into your fuse panel/ battery bank, that might help. The plug into the fridge is the only one you need to remove when the fridge is not in the vehicle.

    Good and affordable?

I've been using Black Oak LED's, they are bright, color matched and seem well sealed compared to the cheap Auxbeam lights I've tried. Closer to Rigid than China in price, they ship with a decent harness and have been no trouble to mount. https://www.blackoakled.com/

1000 Watt Inverter Recommendations / Picked one and installed

Makita makes a 12v. charger that takes 30-50% longer to charge than the AC version, but it may use less power than running a charger off an inverter (which needs to be pure sine). Victron makes some good inverters, the newer Phoenix models are Bluetooth compatible to see what they are doing, the...

    2017-2018 Frontier - Smart alternator?

I have a Blue Sea ACR in an older (2008) Frontier. 2nd battery (and the starter) is also charged with solar, so not sure how long I need to drive to recharge, but they work well together. I'm not sure why Nissan would add a "smart" alternator if they didn't need one for the first 13 years of...

    Truck bed mounted filtered water

There are fairly durable water bags available if you don't want to commit to a particular tank size or location. Use whatever filter you can fit on a hose to fill. RO tends to use much more water than you get to keep, so filter before the tank is filled, not after.

Looking for Help with Off-road Lighting Circuit Wiring

The area below the steering wheel is going to be much less difficult to wire than the headliner, the area around the shifter likewise. It is worth looking at what type of switches you want, if they come in a bank, then looking to fit them into a panel you can remove. Some folks use Blue-Sea...

Family of 4 moving to New Zealand

From what I gather, any car/truck there is super expensive. You will probably want a right hand drive rig, and not a full-size American one. Plenty of skinny roads there and the max speed is about 62 mph (100 kph), so you won't need anything too big. Not sure what the options are for importing a...

Hydronic Heat, Hot water, and Engine Pre-heating

Looking forward to this build, especially the Raspberry Pi elements. Climbing back into my truck with snow packed in every fold of my ski clothes, I noticed how much water i bring into the vehicle in winter. You might consider a dedicated blower to dry wet equipment if you plan to spend much...

    Fridge score! Wow it’s big.

2-way being shore power, yes? Running 120v off of your alternator may be safer and not all that inefficient. A dedicated inverter 120% of the fridge's draw may not tax the electrical system unduly, could be worth a look.

    Onboard air with ARB: questions

Most any compressor will fill a tire, it is just a matter of how long it will take. ARB makes great compressors, but there are others that may do what you want for a price you prefer. All compressors need to both take in clean or filtered air and to dump the wast heat from compressing. Not all...

    Physicist answering solar related questions

Re. "temperature induced lost power", do higher voltage panels suffer more than lower in the same conditions? I see that the voltage is generally a linear drop as the temp increases, but with a lower voltage panel (or parallel panels) you must drop below the threshold of the battery voltage much...

    Physicist answering solar related questions

"My understanding is higher voltage panels will get and stay above vbatt for far longer in lower lighting conditions?" -Dreadlocks This is what I'm seeing with an rooftop panel (36 volts or so) on top of my truck. I was excited to move beyond "12v" panels by using an MPPT. The cost of a 310...

Most affordable, fuel efficient 4x4 set up

With a bit of work, you can seal your shell fairly well. The tailgate will need the most attention then the bed corners and the odd holes under the top rails. The ease and versatility of a shell (and cost) seem to make it a much better choice than a tent, especially if you have enough room to...

    Overwhelmed, need advice.

Another option for panels is to make use of the increased voltage an MPPT controller can handle, a higher voltage panel can produce useful power for a longer period than the standard "12 volt" offerings. I found an "orphaned" panel from a commercial solar installer for less than $.50/watt, most...

Can you run an air locker from just a pressure tank?

Thanks! That's a better way to look at the question, how often does a compressor cycle to keep the locker activated- I think I will plumb the tank to the locker and see what p.s.i. it takes to activate it. Then I can bleed the tank until it disconnects to get an operating range. I gather ARB...

Can you run an air locker from just a pressure tank?

Curious about the pressure/cfm required to keep an ARB air locker actuated, can this be supplied by a 2.5 gal tank at 120 p.s.i.? I am guessing the locker does not likely consume air per se, it just uses it to engage and stays that way until the pressure is removed. If a tank system has no...
