    New to me 2003 Excursion

Nice. I have a VERY similar setup. 6" Zone Offroad lift (made by BDS) and 37" Toyo MTs. I also have the same grille and headlights that I need to install on Tuesday along with a 50" LED bar in a couple of weeks (have the bar, need to build the roof rack). I'll be following your build for sure...

    Winch options: TS9500 vs M8000

Sounds like both will meet your needs pretty well. $150 gets you a fair amount of miles on the road. Like Frenchie said, get a snatch block and some D-rings/Shackles rated for double your winches capacity. I like to use the 6.5 ton shackles where I can. They are bigger which makes it easier to...

    Winch options: TS9500 vs M8000

One is a tried and true winch that has proven it's ability to stand the test of time. There is a reason the M8000 is the winch that all other winches are compared to. The other is a price point winch built in China (better quality control than a no-name brand but still built in China). Depends...

CB Antenna - Where + how to mount it...?

99% of people here in the Northeast mount their antennas on either the rear bumper, tire carrier, or rear hatch (various vehicles and setups). They all work well. I've always had mine mounted to the rear bumper of my vehicles. Tune the SWR and you will do well. Most issues with CB range and...

Help me pick a vehicle heater for winter camping.

That is probably what I will end up with. It serves my needs perfectly, aside from cost. I really like the idea of a hydronic setup though. It's a nicer heat than forced air. I also like the idea of heating up a storage tank of water which resides under my sleeping platform. This would provide...

Thanks for sharing. I really like the idea.

    Post up your drawer/storage system

I didn't stain, seal, or paint mine. I just didn't see the need. I also didn't build mine to last 10 years. I knew it was a 3-4 year thing. The next one I build will be the same. No stain or paint. Just carpet on top. If it gets wet enough to destroy the wood, I have other problems.

A few questions on recovery gear

I misunderstood your post then. It sounds like we are on the same page. Use a real recovery strap for any non-static load. Use a tow strap for static loads. The only thing we seem to disagree on is the usefulness of one over the other. I believe that if I had to choose only one strap, I would...

A few questions on recovery gear

It is my position, and the manufacturers opinion, and the opinion of several companies that are well versed in extraction, that a tow strap should only be used for static loads. If you can effectively use it without placing a shock load on the vehicles or strap, then it is a proper application...

A few questions on recovery gear

I would have to respectfully disagree. If you are getting enough of a running start to break equipment with a kinetic strap, the same running start with a static strap would cause exponentially more damage. The kinetic strap is safer and more effective in a recovery situation when you are...

A few questions on recovery gear

You most certainly want a recovery strap and not a tow strap. You need a strap with stretch to properly extract a stuck vehicle. Tow straps should be used for static loads only! The Rugged Ridge strap is pretty low quality. I would recommend a different brand if you plan to use it more than a...

    ExploringNH's 2000 Ford Excursion build

It does indeed. One of those golf carts pulled me out of a big snowbank though...Shhh, don't tell. I received word today that the Buckstop bumpers will be here on Friday along with the 2005-2007 style grille and headlights. It's going to be a busy day Saturday. Couple photos from today:

Help me pick a vehicle heater for winter camping.

A sleeping bag is fine once you are ready to go to sleep but for sitting up and working in a computer a sleeping bag is cumbersome and not comfortable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Any benefit to remote reservoir shocks?

You are correct. I should rephrase to say "non-remote reservoir". The shocks on the Excursion are Zone Nitro shocks and are also twin-tube design.

Any benefit to remote reservoir shocks?

I don't think you will find anyone who will tell you that monotubes are better. The decision to make is if the benefits outweigh the cost for your application. I debated for quite a while on running external reservoir shocks on my 110 for a trip to South America. I ended up running OME...

    ExploringNH's 2000 Ford Excursion build

Did some more "testing" today. :sombrero: I also picked this up on Friday; Warn PowerPlant 12k with 5 gallon air tank and accessories. I need the bumpers to arrive! They should be here soon. I'm hoping to start on it soon (I've been saying that for a while). I had a few layout issues...
