Update time! And not of the truck variety either!
So I got married on the 5th. Yay! Two weeks prior I found out that the wife's brother was planning on driving from MA to CO with his son. This immediately piqued my interest as my toolbox has resided in the back of my dad's garage for the past...
Funny how that works. Mine has no real interest in cars and was perfectly happy with her bare bones Civic until I showed her an old Dodge Power Wagon. Now she's all about it and wants to get one and learn how to restore it. Who am I to say no to that? :smiley_drive:
I was given a rental F150 EcoBoost before I picked up my Tacoma, so I can at least provide a 1 week comparison of the two. The F150 felt very large, both dimensionally as well as handling wise. The interior space was significantly larger than the Tacoma which, while nice for some larger folk...
I was hoping you would chime in again and I think I'll probably end up with Icons up front as well. I have no complaints about the performance of the rear shocks and I figure they can't possibly be any worse than the OMEs. I'll probably get the external reservoir ones as well while I am at it...
So a bit of an update regarding the Icon shocks:
First off, I have to give Scott Spiva and the whole team at Icon major credit for their handling of the issue. Scott and I corresponded back and forth for a week to determine if the shock was behaving abnormally, and after sending him a video, he...
Thanks! As much as I'd love to head down to Baja with you guys I'm blowing my vacation wad in a few weeks heading down to Costa Rica for a 2 week honeymoon. I appreciate the offer though and the additional details you put in your build thread at my request!
I got the SR5 Tacoma because of what you mentioned; it makes little sense to spend extra for the suspension upgrades that come with the Off Road edition (the locker and additional smarts would be nice though) if you are just going to replace it all. Beware that if you did go down the TRD package...
With how well documented and well written all of your stuff is I'm surprised you actually have a chance to do anything. I can only imagine how much time putting stuff like that write up together takes.
That being said it is now bookmarked and will be referenced in the future. So thank you for that.
I know you say that in jest but if I had the $$$ at the moment I'd totally slap another (albeit smaller) one on the bumper instead of the Hellas. I have been very thankful for the additional light navigating some of the back roads and passes here in CO at night. It has on several occasions saved...
Been a while since I've updated this thread. Wedding planning and getting the house winterized has taken up the majority of my time.
In the realm of slightly unfortunate news, the back end of my truck developed a clunk that I only noticed when backing up faster than 5mph and popping over the...
Heh, Dakar leaf packs are renowned for their creakiness too. I've heard various remedies from prying the leafs apart to install pond liner in between them to prying them apart and slathering them with grease. From the sounds of it they are all just temporary solutions. My Dakars creak less now...
Certainly! From everything I have read on Tacomaworld, you can't stuff a 35 without having wheels with 3.5" BS (to keep off frame at full lock), the cab mount chop, beating in the firewall or tubbing, and taking at least 2.5" out of the fender/flare. I'm curious to see how it works out for you...
