Trouble shooting a misfire on Cylinder #1

No, I reused the wires that were on it. They are OEM, but I have no idea if they are original. I bought the truck with 180k miles, now at 205k. Is there a way to test if the wires are bad? I suppose I could swap wires with #5 or whatever, but that's a PIA due to the need to remove the...

Trouble shooting a misfire on Cylinder #1

I finally got my Monty back together again after 5 months of being in pieces in my driveway. 1998 Gen 2.5 with the 3.5L SOHC engine. The good news is that it runs! The bad news is that it runs poorly, and is missing Cylinder #1. Not being a mechanic, I really don't know how to trouble shoot...

I keep watching this Montero video

it was mostly in the front that I was seeing the difference. You're rig was doing wheelies, and the Green 1994 was tiptoeing through. There was a little bit of difference in the skinny pedal to account for some of that, but generally, I was pretty impressed with the Green one's level stance...

Toasty, why did the second Monty flex so much more than the 3rd Monty? Besides 35's vs 37's, were there other suspension differences?

silicone tape a must- have for off road first aid

I did. My daughter cut her finger quite deeply, and bandaids wouldn't stick due to all the blood. So my roll of Super Tape was quite helpful!

WTB - Canon Lenses for College Photography Student

My son is looking to buy a used Canon 5D MIII, and needs lenses for it. We aren't in the new retail price market. If you've been thinking about selling a seldom used lens, we might be interested. He is definitely looking for a 50mm, preferably the F/1.2, but would accept a good deal on F/1.4...

Setting the timing marks on a 3.5 SOHC

I should probably follow up and answer my own questions for the next guy: 1. With a solid wrench, not a ratchet, the cam sprocket will stay in the right spot. Fit the belt over the wrench first, and have someone hold the wrench while you fuss the belt into place around the other sprockets...

    Engine help needed - 3.5L SOHC 1998 Gen 2.5

Yeap, got it mostly all back together yesterday. ran the compression test today. If you remember this saga started with a reading of 50 psi in Cylinder #1 (dry). Here is the readings today, from a stone cold block that has been sitting for 4 months. Cylinder Pattern (from front bumper looking...

Setting the timing marks on a 3.5 SOHC

Good News! Within 5 minutes of Ty coming over, he got the cam gear to set (sit?) still in the right spot. It took 3 or 4 tries to get the timing belt on correctly where everything lined up, but it was a accomplished and Ty was super helpful in getting the AC bracket and pump back on as well...

Setting the timing marks on a 3.5 SOHC

Ultimately, the question is why won't the cam sprocket "stay" at TDC or whatever the position is where it aligns with the timing marks? It used to, and now it doesn't. The next uncertainty is if it's "okay" to hold the sprocket in position with a wrench while fitting the timing belt on. In...
