I know exactly what you mean. Bought a 2016 F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost new and that engine is awesome. Instant power everywhere. Doesn't need to shift down when it comes to a hill. Closest thing to driving a diesel in a gas engine.
^This! By far the biggest improvement! I was astounded at how much better the coil suspension articulated, especially with the sway bar disconnected. It was almost hard to get a wheel to leave the ground in twisty terrain!
I doubt it. Biggest attraction for super singles is the ability to air them down for dirt road traveling. But if you are aired down and get in an off-camber situation that only makes it worse as the tires on the downhill side squish down. Dually's wider stance (and can take only minimal...
XT225 is a great little bike! I had a 1992 for many years...and when I found out they were going to be discontinued, I bought a 2007 (last model year).
Mine is essentially stock except for a Clarke 4-gallon tank and a luggage rack. For the putting around I do the stock suspension is fine...
Just some advice from someone who has been using a heavy cabover camper on a truck for many years...you will have to restrict yourself to "good" dirt roads only. A hundred miles of the vibration caused by a washboardy dirt road will cause serious damage to most campers...literally shake it...
Can't speak to the pickup version...but I bought a S10 Blazer new and drove it 321,000 miles. Great trouble-free drivetrain. 4.3 V6 engine/Turbo 700 tranny.
Owner's manual on my F150 with the 3.5 recommends using the highest octane possible when towing heavy. Engine will adjust and put out additional power on the higher octane fuel.
^This says it all.
I HATE listening to an engine screaming at 3000+ rpm. Even if the noise isn't that bad, just seeing the tach pointing that high stresses me out.
??? Perhaps Ford sent all their lemons to Utah? I have a 2016 F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost, bought new. It spends most of its miles with a trailer hooked to it. So almost 8 years with the truck now and it has been flawless - all I do is change oil/filters and rotate the tires. Temperature...
Forgot about that feature! Guy I worked with crushed that low-hanging DEF tank when he was crossing a washout. I believe there's an aftermarket metal shield available to protect that plastic tank but I'd be skeptical that it could hold the weight of a heavy diesel truck when the front tires...
Far cry difference in the robustness of the military components compared with what GM puts under their trucks. Military isn't so concerned with weight and their components are massive.
There's a reason, when you see HD rigs built for overlanding, that most are either Ram/Dodge or Ford. And...
How much off-highway travel do you intend to do? That's the question that will determine whether you want a truck with IFS. I live in northern Nevada and worked for mining companies for over 40 years. NONE of the mines run GM trucks because of problems with the IFS. These trucks run in...
Thing to remember about the 4500/5500 series is that they all come with 19.5" wheels/tires which are not off-highway friendly. Tire choice is very limited. Running lowered air pressure in the tires is not an option unless you spring for aftermarket (and very expensive) rims/tires.
Going up any kind of grade pulling all that weight the hemi will be turning 4000+ rpm and mileage will be in the single digits. If you're good with listening to the engine scream and watching your fuel gauge drop then go for it.
I have both a gas-powered one-ton and a dually with the...
^ This!
Stock tire size on most 4Runners, including the Off-Road models, is 265/70R17. Lots of takeoffs available on line for sale. The stock tires will do fine in 95% of road conditions. If you really feel the need for all-terrain tires then find some stock 17" rims and have all-terrains...
For me it's not so much wild animals...its irrational, crazy people. Especially druggies. I was hiking up a really rugged canyon bottom not 5 miles from my house a few years ago and ran into a hidden marijuana farm. Many news reports of how those people kill intruders.
Here's the payload sticker on my 2016, Supercab with the 6.5' bed and 3.5 Ecoboost. I didn't order anything special, just the way it came from the factory.
