Newbie needs advice on M101A2 for family expedition trailer.

Naw wharries, mahn - massive cool. You're good to go. Good choice (I have 2 now...). Do it. I doubt you'd lose money on the deal in the long run. ********** things are bombproof & there's nothing close currently being made for anything less than ~$10000. If you're keeping the axels & brakes...

Sure-Fire Ways to Improve Your Roof Top Tent

Majorly kewl!!!! So stealing that idea, too. :) I might not over-engineer those, speaking for myself; I think I'd want a built-in failure point to avoid damage from unintentional overloading.

    Freakin' BRILLIANT!

    Tepui Tent RTT

I don't recall if the Autana Sky was available at the time I purchased my Autana, but I do wish that I had the Sky, for no other reason than to have the roof panels open for ventilation AND visibility.

    Smittybuilt rtt??

Are my eyes seeing what I think they're seeing? It looks like something akin to the Tepui Kukenam.

    Post your Camp Awnings

Fiberglass tent poles by the frakton can be gotten from eBay. I got three 27ft pole kits that I used to make two 32ft sections (with spare sections & shock cord left over). Use the heaviest, highest quality tarp you can afford, or, even better, use whatcha got on hand. And who cares it's heavy...

30' of telescoping fiberglass tent poles give the sides rigidity and are attached to the tarp via tied pieces of paracord. The 4' aluminum poles and tent stakes are from this: Plans: Sorry that the description is written in Parapyropigese. Didn't think I'd ever share with the rest of the...

SUPERFLY... 30' x 20' 12 mil tarp with 4' sections of military camo support poles, 1/2" tent poles (to strengthen the sides), reflective guy lines, Nite eyze figure 9s for tentioners, military tent stakes & screw augers for windy days. I can fit my expedition trailer, FJ, and safari-style...

Awning and side walls, compatibility amongst brands?

Been looking into this - I've been comparing metric & imperial measurements... Looks like there's some overlap between ARB & CVT. Even the Tepui "awning extension" tent is 79" wide, as is a CVT awning...

    Tepui Tent RTT

The RTTs are designed such that I would think the ladder is essential to support the cantilevered section under load. Otherwise I'd expect shutff to get broke. Between the wife & I there's no way the tent can survive with over 350+ pounds in it unsupported. (I'm 6'4" & 275lbs). :Wow1...

    Tepui Tent RTT

Never had an issue with water infiltrating through the zipper fabric. - And that's from driving through MANY miles in the monsoonal rains of south Florida & long road trips. I did hit the zipper area with leftover waterproofing solution when I redid the tent. Still no issues. Everything now...

    RTT Mattress

Yup - that's me. :wings: It was in the 40s... Didn't take long to "thaw out" enough for it to be comfortable.

Gordigear. Those stills are from their product demo video on YouTube. That particular tent in the video IIRC is the Explorer Plus. It's analogous to the Autana.

    RTT Mattress

Similar solution here: 3" mem foam mattress pad from Costco. Got it all stuffed into a single mattress cover. Noticed the marble-soft quality in the cold... It got better the more conducted heat leached out of me & the wife. :)

    RTT Gone Crazy!!!

The telescoping ladder on my Autana started to fail at multiple latches within 1 season of use. It's theorized that the internal mechanism became misaligned somehow... Tepui replaced it under warranty with one of their sliding ladders - at my request. The slider is vastly simpler and feels...

    Tepui Tent RTT

I added mine after a week in Ouray - my mattress started to get "the funk" from accumulated moisture. The water gets IN the mattress, so increasing the surface area exposed to the atmosphere by adding a AC mat makes a lot of sense. No regrets on the purchase.
