    Bearing Buddies

Well, they do get knocked off. I don't whether it was a wildebeest or what, but I had to get a gnu one for one wheel (bought an extra, just in case) in Kanab, UT, last month. My guess is that while fording a stream in Utah an underwater serpent, not a gneiss one either probably picked it off...

    Interior fishing rod racks...

I purchased a couple of inexpensive, extendable clothes bars, covered them with plumbing insulation to protect the rods, then wrapped an elastic cord from one end to the other. I use strong rubber bands to keep the end hooks of the bars secured to the hangers on the bulkhead of the vehicle...

    Baja 500

Sorry about your hard luck. Know it was a great experience anyway. We're just barely back in the U.S. tonight. Stopped off in El Centro to pick up the ATRV and are heading back to ID via the Alabama Hills, Bodie, and a few NV mining towns. Are you making plans for any of the BITD races? At...

    Long Rappel

Great report, Henry J. The next time I fish that river downstream of the dam I'll get a closer look at the face..."look", mind you, nothing else. We often camp along the river w/in sight of the dam. Allen R

    Baja 500 Pit Crew: Sign-up! (June 1-3/07)

Robb, Many thanks, but from the Santa Barbara area we usually head SE and drop in around where the 15/215 connect w/the 10, so we don't go by SD. Thanks anyway. Chris, Got your e-mail, but the link won't let me see to what your refer. Allen R From beautiful downtown Bishop, CA Great ride...

    Baja 500 Pit Crew: Sign-up! (June 1-3/07)

The course map is posted. Good luck Scott (and Chris)! Keep all wheels earthbound and churning! I don't know my assignment yet but imagine that I'll be somewhere between RM 110 and 142, more or less. Interesting course. Not new, but some new 'twists'. Glad it's a downhill at Simpson's...

    your back porch

We have two back porches. The one in Idaho changes with the seasons. The one in Baja can change also, depending on the capricious winds. Allen R

    OZI Explorer

Uwe, do you integrate this with a GPS? If so, which one. I'm in the process of switching out my Garmin 60cs for either a 276, 376 or a Lowrance 540c. I've been to the Yahoo Oxi-Users site and am overwhelmed with all that's there. We were down in central Mexico (Guerrero and Michoacan) a...

    Arctic Environmental / Sponsorship Discussion

Thank you RoundOut for taking the time to respond. Since the privately-owned producers--whether they be the large Exxon or the small independent--control very little of the world market, don't the nationalized companies (over 87% of the mkt as I understand it) play the definitive role in...

mods you wouldnt do again ...

"**************"!!! How old are you Brady? The next thing you'll find a really boss expedition vehicle to drive. :jump: I don't do much in the way of mods any longer. Just shocks and maybe an extra skid plate. Well, maybe I do try one mod. I try to think more these days. Allen R

    Traditional Baja Vehicle: Sportsmobile

Friends of ours who are also "Baja-oriented" friends just purchased one. They had a 4X4 van with camping mods before, but I believe that this is their first Sportsmobile. I'll link this thread to them and see if they wish to enter into the dialog. Allen R

    Arctic Ocean Expedition: March-April, 2007

I've now managed to catch up on the whole trip. What a grand adventure! Pasquale, I've enjoyed your work before and can only add that I don't envy your editing duties. I imagine that it will be a difficult process to make those "what-to-leave-on-the-cutting-room-floor" decisions...

L.A. to Gonzaga Bay in one day

As of last week they were putting the finishing touches on the last of the Puertecitos pavement, working on the vado bridges near town. South of P to Gonzaga the road is the worst we've seen in about six years (the last time they graded the whole length). Even with airing-down to 24psi...
