    powering 12v fridge

My last truck, 2007 Tacoma, I put an ARB 55L in the back. Ran it off the truck battery. The only thing I did was get a bigger battery. I left it plugged in all summer long whether I was out camping or not. Only on the hottest days (95degrees plus), did the fridge stop cooling because of low...

Aux fuel tank idea - Tell me why this won't work

Thought about that too!! I regularly refill with 16-18 gallons now. Aux tank will get that same amount. If I put a pump like that in, I know the pump will run until the Aux tank is dry. Will that cause issues with the pump? Will there be priming issues? And thanks for the product info. I...

Aux fuel tank idea - Tell me why this won't work

First, thanks all for indulging me while I bounce ideas around. Thanks for all the thoughts, ideas, and concerns. As much fun as it is trying to create a cool solution that will work with a push of a button, it was getting a little too much both in terms of complications and as well as costs...

Aux fuel tank idea - Tell me why this won't work

The more you know, the harder this gets. And that darn idea of being safe doesn't help. You can get a rectangular tank that will accept a "traditional" in-tank pump. But those pumps that they design for are $450. I am sure they would custom fit the opening for a standard Toyota pump ($220)...

Aux fuel tank idea - Tell me why this won't work

Why would it be a bad idea to drain off the bottom of the tank? Pumps pull of the bottom of the tank.

Aux fuel tank idea - Tell me why this won't work

My first thoughts started along the "Pacemaker" route. But I wanted to leave the stock tank alone as much as possible. Aside from being expensive to replace if I screw up while modifying, getting the drill shavings out would suck as well. IdaSHO, like the set up. The CJ pump might be the...

Aux fuel tank idea - Tell me why this won't work

OK. so gravity feed is most likely not allowed. Apparently, if you want to push it, it may be legal. But just not recommended. I don't need to push it. With my luck, I will end up with that cranky inspector / state patrolman. I guess from a safety aspect it does make sense. Any issues, it...

Aux fuel tank idea - Tell me why this won't work

So I have had this idea rolling around in my head for some time. Having some spare gas is a good idea, but I am not a fan of the RotoPax. Spending $150+ to carry an extra 2 gallons doesn’t rub my budget the right way. Jerry cans are a lot cheaper, but are still a bit awkward to strap down, find...

    Noobie radio question

They are very serious about it. One of the Park researchers logged 6175 consecutive days out watching and observing the wolves. No matter how cold. He is now retired and still goes out every day. A lot of people do it just for fun and enjoyment. Most are pretty nice and willing to help you...

    Noobie radio question

Hmmm. Doesn't sound like something a bunch of retirees would be using. I am going to be that the website that listed that frequency is wrong. I didn't think to ask them when I was there what frequency they used. Gives me another excuse to head out there. :)

    Noobie radio question

While wolf watching in Yellowstone last week, we found that a lot of the amateur watchers have organized a bit better and are using hand-held radios to communicate with each other. Per a website, they are using frequency 464.5000 PL 131.8. I understand that the 464.5000 is the frequency. I have...

    Tripod head question / opinion

After our trip to Yellowstone last week, I realized it’s time to upgrade our tripod that we use for our spotting scope. I am considering either a gimbal head or a traditional pan/tilt fluid head. I like the ease of moving the scope around with the gimbal, but I am a little concerned about the...

In Praise of the Humble Rental Car

Don't be afraid to ask if they will upgrade you. They will either tell you "no", or you can have the Mustang convertible for another $5 a day while you are in Vegas.

    EV dune buggy

The new owner of Meyers Manx did an episode with Jay Leno. He didn't have his EV buggy in there. But he did talk about it a little. And it looks like he is trying to make the company viable. Meyers Manx on Jay Leno's Garage

Introducing the New EV Ford ‘Brick’

Toyota already has a hydrogen generator in production now. They sell their fuel cell to Generac to package and sell here in the states. Little to big and boxy to fit in the front of a Tundra. But give them time. https://www.generac.com/Industrial/all-about/hydrogen

Drive to Arctic Circle in “high miles” 4th Gen 4Runner

Drove from Iowa to above the Arctic circle in 1990. Went up the Dalton highway right after it was opened to the public. Needed the spare. But only one. Needed to visit the dentist after to replace a filling or two that shook lose. The Milepost NMBruce mentioned is a great resource. Strongly...

    Earthroamer sell off?

If you are buying / selling an ER, I don't think the latest economic downturn is affecting you very much. During the last major economic slump in 2008, while the Big 3 automakers in the US were struggling to stay afloat, Mercedes, Porshe, Bently, ... sales stayed steady.
