Have you seen this box build? http://xterranation.org/showthread.php?4547-mudchet-s-cargo-box-version-2 Its one of the better ones I've see for the xterra so far. He found a way to keep access to the underfloor storage, although its from behind the rear seats. Might be helpful in your planning.
