We've had some great trips over the last 1,261 days, and just returned from a week long Oregon trip, now back in Southern California.
Plans change, and this'll be more or less the end of this thread, as the rig is soon to be listed for sale.
I hope the information here has helped some folks...
Looks like some of the kevlar helicopter load sling straps I've got. Lasted for years, heavy and stiff though. Those purpose made ones are probably a bit more flexible than the 40k straps I've got.
Hmmm...interesting idea and question.
I would think "no" to the consumable item. I would still like to see some kind of security there when the flatbed is empty, so still either a removable laminated safety glass panel, or maybe one of the polycarbonates? Problem with the poly is they scratch...
Flat bed
Removable
Could still be done with a pass through, and a detachable, sealable port. Either design the mold so that it covers standard vehicle types and their rear windows, or opt for a flat panel that can be custom cut, then run a bellows system that replaces the rear window on the cab...
Well, you're actually in a much better position, used-parts-wise, than we are in the USA. So you have that going for you.
The basic line up changed, I think, around 2010.5. Later years should be compatible, but it also depends on whether or not you have to change out the gearbox. If you have...
It's possible, but how deep are your pockets?
Much will also depend on your location, you're more than likely in Aus, but if you're in NA, then it really gets problematic.
Well, honestly....good luck with that.
Pricing is what the market will bear, and one other thing to remember when buying these vehicles....."the cheapest one often turns out to be the most expensive one"
Some vehicles have very compliant suspensions, some have very compliant frames, some have a combination of both. Problems ensue when superstructure designs give different flexibility than was originally designed into the vehicle frame - a classic example is someone running a Unimog derived...
Yep, that's the big issue, the height. I tried Nationals at first, not impressed too much and they were too high for me. Stratos are about the only game in town for suspension seats for the Canters.
When I go back to Unimog I'll go back to Isri seats.
EXPandable
FiXed
Other than that the EXP has somewhat more fluid capacity - fuel, etc. At least from what I remember. FX can also be heavier, it's easy to pack all sorts of crap in it. Don't ask me how I know that.
More is better, sometimes.
I went with permanently mounted front and rear 16.5k winches. Good thing about the larger winches is a larger drum capacity, giving you more line to enable better pulls and reduction setups. American and many other consumer grade winches use the first inner layer...
