There are actually a couple of different sizes of the ball mount - I'm using the larger of the two. With the ipad weight, I don't think the small, standard size would do so well.

I did a ram ball mount right between the seats, for the ipad. Eventually I'll move up up a bit higher, up on the dash. One thing to remember with the ipad though - they really, really don't like heat. As in "time to shut down, case is too hot" kind of behavior. When I do make a dash mount...
