These look like canvas bivvy tents to me as well. What's the difference?

    Up-yers!!!! (Expedition Trophy)

Scott, Thank you for taking the time to capture, edit, and provide this footage for us. I'm really grateful to have the opportunity to see it. :victory: That was really enjoyable and it also provided the ability to see how we did negotiating several of the corners. I could even see how...

    Ham or CB?

x2 In addition, I have a different opinion than Lance regarding getting the handheld first. I recommend the mobile first, it has a great range and really takes advantage of the additional power that the HAM license grants you. The handheld could then be a supplement.

    WTB Magellan Crossover

Damn, Roger, nice Avatar. I wish I had actually been there when this happened, instead of being just a few miles away and hearing about it later. Still glad there was no drama.

    Dumb Mapping Software Questions

Check out the Delorme products. Topo 7 is awesome, but I don't think it will give you turn-by-turn directions, but you can plan a route with it. As for terrain profiles, all kinds of good map info off pavement, I haven't found much better. Plus, you can download satelite and aerial imagery...

    Roof Rack Flooring

I was interested in adding some of this to my Yakima Load Warrior; however, I've paused for a moment to rethink this. With this rack, there are several crossbars, about every 4-5". This gives me plenty of places to lash down whatever I'm carrying up there, but it's too difficult to actually...

    Adventure Trailer Mod Thread

Thank you very much for posting these up. The aluminum lid handles are an excellent idea. Where did you get them? and price? Also, the airbag length check tool...absolutely brilliant. I'm going to have to see if I can add something like that to the latest suspension version. I don't...

    Lowrance Sierra

I like the aerial and satelite imagery option of the Delorme PN-20 and PN-40. This in addition to their top notch topo software: Topo 7.

    Sleeping bag questions

    1. Get a thermarest or similar for placement on top of the cot. 2. Get a 0* bag, you can always adjust if it's warmer. 3. I agree about going to REI or a store that will let you try them out...you'll be happier in the long run. If this won't work, pay close attention to inside dimensions. 4...

For the knife gurus -- I need a new knife!

While I would agree that this model would be easier to open, I question whether it would be easier to close. I haven't evaluated this particular model, but my experience with this style lock leads me to believe that it's not as easy to close as the Axis lock. I believe the dual thumb screw on...

    Compact DSLR: Olympus 420

I don't think CF vs. SD/SDHC is a problem. Memory manufacturers continue to support the CF format. Maybe one day, but not in the near future. All of Nikon's professional cameras require compact flash and do not support the SD format. They have, however, switched to to the SD format on their...

For the knife gurus -- I need a new knife!

Benchmades are a bit pricey, but they're worth every penny. That's why I recommended the Griptilian model; I think it's a good value. EE has it for only $85. The other knife I like, if you can stomach a bit higher cost is the Presidio. Both are designed by Mel Pardue. I have both of these...
