Perfect off-highway tire = LTX? What?

If you want high mileage tires that are great on pavement, it is hard to beat the Micheline LTX tires. I can't speak for the M/S2 but the M/S were great. I went through 2 sets. First got over 90K miles on them and could have gone longer but were getting marginal in wet traction. The second...

Try again Ace. I went back and reinserted the attachments.

Trip Report Wyoming BDR August 16-26

I reinstalled the attachments so the photos should show now. Now I will finish up my report. I will start out with a field of flowers. I think these are mountain sunflowers but don't use that as a reference. It was nice to see so many flowers on the trip. This was near the beginning of the...

Trip Report Wyoming BDR August 16-26

Ace, you are talking about a different situation. That photo was taken on the day before the official start of the trip, when we went up to the Montana border. No other people or cows were around. yetti, you could be correct. However, they were taking a very long break. They had to be there...

Trip Report Wyoming BDR August 16-26

I have gotten home and finally unpacked after two back to back off-road adventures. My home survived Tropical Storm Hillary while I was gone with with only a medium sized tree limb blown down. My report is kind of late but here it is. This first photo is of a mostly barren area with some...

Perfect off-highway tire = LTX? What?

It looks like a very sharp rock did that. I am always on the lookout for those sharp ones, but it is hard to see all of them. True off-road tires usually have better side wall protection. You may have found one of the weaknesses of the LTX for off-raod duty. I have to say though a sturdier...

Is a Land Cruiser really better off-road than a Tacoma? My experience says the opposite..

I don't know much about the newer Landcruisers or the Tacos, but I owned a '73' FJ55 for about 15 years. It was pretty much a slug around town, but I thought it was almost nimble off-road (that was 90% of its duties). I slapped some 31 BFG AT tires and an auxiliary gas tank on it and I could...

    1981 Fj40 Landcruiser 1 owner very original

With 31" BFG AT tires, I would run my 73 FJ55 at 70 mph on pavement all the time. I know the wheelbase of the FJ40 is shorter, but the drivetrain should be the same. I doubt axle ratios would be different. Later years may have taller axle gears with more transmission gears (lower 1st gear)...

Carbon Fiber Leentu Camper Summer price drop

How much does it weigh? What are the outside dimension of it to fit on a trailer?

Perfect off-highway tire = LTX? What?

I think you are mistaking the LTX M/S for a true mud tire. The M/S is a quiet street tire and a good one. The AT has a more aggressive tread. Michelin's A/T 2 does not have as an aggressive tread as most AT tires, but it is more aggressive than any of the Michelin M/S tires.

    Garmin Overlander

You are right. I looked for the information I thought included Garmin, but it only included BDR and Gaia. I should check my sources before stating non-facts. I guess it was wishful thinking.

    Garmin Overlander

That would just be my luck if they discontinued the Garmin Overlander. I finally pulled the trigger and bought one last year when they had them on sale. I had been evaluating various ways to go and was impressed with the capability of Garmin Overlander belonging to friends I have travelled...

Perfect off-highway tire = LTX? What?

I went through two sets of LTX M/S tires in over 160K miles combined. I think they are excellent street tires and do reasonably well in the snow. I still don't agree with the opinion of some that think they are also great off-road tires and do well in the mud. More power to anyone that wants...

    Wildernest Restoration

I don't remember where I got them, but they are just standard aluminum pop rivets. I am pretty sure they have a steel pull core. They are either 1/8" or 3/16" dia shank (what ever fits the holes). I don't remember the length. I think any good hardware store should carry them.

    Wildernest Restoration

I didn't use bolts and nuts on my latches. I used pop rivets. I did use bolts and nuts on the hinges and I don't remember having a problem with it. I had the Wildernest shell completely apart when I refurbished it. I am pretty sure I attached the hinges to the top (cap) before I placed the...

    Wildernest Restoration

Is the nikwax tent waterproofing spray used on the outside or inside? Does it tend to stick together when it gets hot? I know the urethane kind of does that when hot and humid, especially when put away in that condition.

    Wildernest Restoration

How do you plan to waterproof the canvas after basically removing the internal urethane coating that was the original water proofing? I know a few people have tried to remove the mildew and were not successful in getting the canvas to seal after. Hopefully you have a good idea that others can use.

Looks like you are doing a good job of restoring so far. I don't get the Westfalia decals, but it is your camper and you can do what you like with it. Mine has had a couple repaints and has no decals anymore. I have had mine since new and have taken care to keep it in good condition. I...

    America’s Great Continental Divide

I have to agree, Northern New Mexico is spectacular. However, areas in Southern and mid Colorado are also very nice. I had to bail out at I-70 due to a catalytic converter hanger failure, so I don't have an opinion yet on the Northern part of the trip. I will someday though.
