MG recommended Vision Diesel to me and they're very thorough and did good work on my 7.3 but they're just south of Portland and I don't know what part of the PNW you're in.

So I managed about 100 miles around town with no issues. Great, let's hook up a trailer and take off. What could go wrong?
So over the past few days I've tried to compile a kit from my "second tier" tools that I can keep in the van. It seems like it's pretty complete but the only way to know...
Driveshafts! We got them.
Sadly Josh is off coaching this week so it was just me and MG. We got it done. Mostly MG.
I tore the plastic air dam lower thing off the bumper and then marked out and cut the bumper to clear the front wheels.
Meanwhile MG sorted out miscellaneous...
Probably the biggest part of the decision was that MG is local to me. That said I had talked to Chris and was considering doing the whole thing myself but if I did it would have required me to build out the entire interior as a living space because my wife would have kicked me out of the house...
Nice. It's always good to have the choice confirmed.
Glad to hear you've started doing some wood work too. I need to get back on top of that or my wife is going to kill me.

I stopped by yesterday to drop off the switch panel to MG and he was tying up loose ends and running wires. All the brake lines are done and most of the wires are run.
I wished I'd cleaned and painted the frame while it was stripped but I didn't want to make a mess in Josh's super clean...
The last of the axle work was done today. We're getting close.
First was welding on the spring perches and shock mounts. The original ones were ground off and replacements were fitted and tacked into place when we did the test fitting of the axle. Time for more sparks!
I can tig weld but...
If you just heard a sigh it was probably me breathing one of relief...
Thank you VT for being free of DMV nonsense. I can't tell you how relieved I am that I now truly own this van.

It's a race between the Vermont DMV and the driveshaft shop. MG was headed to the shop today with a request to expedite them and those sort of shops are hard to rush. Tuesday? Fingers crossed.

The axle showed up yesterday and I managed to get free after spending the morning stripping, grinding and cleaning the front hitch mount on the Avion trailer that we're restoring (you know, because restoring a house, three motorcycles and this van wasn't enough on my plate). My timing was...
I'll try to remedy that - but MG is the brains and Josh is the brawn. But it's pretty obvious they switch rolls every once in a while.
Yes, the electric locker should just be a switch and the front axle has the "auto" hubs so MG is going to hook that up to a vacuum solenoid and another switch...
We're still waiting on the replacement front axle which is supposed to show up on Wednesday but we managed a bit more more work on the other end that I can catch up on now.
Now that is a torque wench! Wrench! Sorry, yes, wrench... So easy to get them mixed up. MG mentioned what it was for and...
Thanks, I forgot that for some reason - it's a 3.73 and I don't believe it's limited slip but I'll check on Wednesday when we work on the van again.

I'm building my van up to a 4x4 with MG Metalworks and using a 2016 front axle and found a Sterling 10.5 for the rear so I am selling my rear axle - it's a 3.55 and I don't think it's limited slip but I'm not sure. As MG tells me it's the rather rare and desirable full floating design and it's a...
Thanks! And yes, on the Sonys. I picked up the Sony A9 which has been a big improvement over the A7 which is/was amazing but quirky and not all that fast. The A9 is lightning fast and a bit more intuitive so I'm liking it way better. I like the freedom of build threads - they're a chance to play...
I'm building my van up to a 4x4 with MG Metalworks and using a 2016 front axle and found a Sterling 10.5 for the rear so I am selling my rear axle. As MG tells me it's the rather rare and desirable full floating design and it's a 1 ton and has disk brakes. It came off a shuttle van with 170k...
