Joinin' the Montero Club with a Gen 2.5

Homebrew Sleeping Platform v.2 This mod is from a year ago but I never documented it. I had been using offroader's great sleeping platform design for over a year. But, because I wanted something a little longer, with more headroom, and ultimately space for a fridge, I switched things up...

Mitsubishi Montero Gen 2.5 Horn Repair or Bypass

The Gen 2/2.5/3 horn button consists of a membrane switch in the steering wheel that commonly fails by getting stuck in the closed position. This ultimately leads to the horn being stuck on. When this happens the only way to turn the horn off is to pull the horn fuse in the fusebox or disconnect...

Joinin' the Montero Club with a Gen 2.5

Horn Update Haven't updated this thread in a long time... My horn hasn't worked since I bought the Montero going on three years ago. Driving in LA traffic, that has led to some frustrating and even dangerous experiences. Decided to finally get on it. These Monteros have a membrane switch...

Tire Repairs: Show your repair and tell your story

It was most likely due the combination of their Suburban being a heavy vehicle on fairly low profile street tires, being aggressively driven. That said, on our way up the Dalton we passed an older German couple that had completed the trip in a newer Volvo station wagon on very low profile tires...

Tire Repairs: Show your repair and tell your story

An excerpt from my Los Angeles to Prudoe Bay trip report, Summer 2014: A Dalton Highway Cautionary Tale A group of local Fairbanks guys had decided to rent a Suburban for the weekend to make the drive up to Prudhoe Bay. This is big a no-no with the rental companies, of course, who don't want...

Home brewed rear bumpers w/ swing outs

Here's my dual swing out tire carrier. It's a rudimentary design but stout. Read up on the advantages of double shear hinges over single shear hinges before you plan your design. It made it from Los Angeles to Prudoe Bay and back. More info on the bumper build here --> link Good luck!

Seeking Advice - Gen 2.5 Montero

freeway, remember, a cheap car is not always cheap. I think when looking at 15-20 year old vehicles, as is the case with Gen 2/2.5 Monteros, in the long run its cheaper to spend a little more upfront for a vehicle that has been responsibly owned and maintained. Of course, my 2 cents.

Seeking Advice - Gen 2.5 Montero

I personally would go for the the one with 98k all things being equal and you can swing the extra cash upfront. Unless you have receipts for recent work, they're both both going to need a timing belt, water pump, cam/crank seals, updated balancer bolt, plugs & wires, valve cover gaskets. Good luck.

Mitsubishi Montero Gen 2.5 Starter Replacement

Salonika, I didn't need to remove the transmission lines. But as you can see in the above pictures, they are very close to the starter mounting bolts. There is not a lot of space to work. Good Luck.

Chrome vinyl wrap on the roof

My experiment adding cooling effect to the roof. ---> link Inspired by the use of Buskote, a product used on school bus and RV roofs. It's held up great in the nearly 2 years I've had it on my truck. The price is right as 1 gallon was about $10 at Home Depot. Surface temps of the roof are...

What did you do to your Mitsubishi today?

Man, my water pump sprung a leak at the gasket after only 40k miles. Note to self, never use hylomar as a sealant again. I don't know why I didn't use the tried and true Permatex aviation sealant I'd been using for the past 20 years. Lesson learned. Rather than take everything apart and just...

Mitsubishi Montero Gen 2.5 Starter Replacement

I replaced my starter and took some pics of the process in the event it might help someone else. For the record, clearances are very tight. This is not a job you'd want to do trailside. First, disconnect the Negative (ground) cable at the battery. The starter is visible from underneath the...
